Jethro dBodine Although not a major character, actress Sharon Tate, who was slain by the Manson Family in 1969, had a recurring role during the early years of the series. Tate appeared in a dark wig as Janet, an assistant to Miss Hathaway at the Commerce Bank.

Paul Lynde certainly made his round of all the 60's sitcoms, but he is hilarious on all of them!

I agree with you snake, it was dumb, and I'll bet the cast thought about that all the way to the bank lol

The Beverly Hillbillies was pretty much universally despised by the critics, but it was consistently at the top of the ratings. As Iren Ryan (Granny) once said, Forty million people can't be wrong.

I wrote a paper in college about The Beverly Hillbillies. I consider it one of the greatest artworks of the 20th Century. In literary terms, it was an allegory of the transition from a rural to an urban society that defines that century. I am sure Shakespeare would have been a big fan of the show. My favorite sublime running gag was that in spite of what the city folks thought of them, the only really stupid one was Jethro, who was also the educated one.
