Hulk Hogan WWF Debut - 1979 Hulk Hogan made his WWF debut (yes, it was called the World Wrestling Federation then) in this November 1979 TV match. As the clip shows, Hogan was originally a heel managed by Classy Freddy Blassie. The 26-year-old Hogan barely works up a sweat in this match versus hapless jobber Harry Valdez.

At least Harry Valdez has something to tell his grandkids.

When Hogan first came to the WWF we were saying...wow, look at this guy! But he didn't do a whole lot in the ring. Finally got to the main event and Bob Backlund took him to school, made Hogan look bad in the ring. A different, I think better, era of wrestling.

I recall reading a magazine piece from about 1984 or 1985 in which old-time champion Lou Thesz critiqued Hulk Hogan. Thesz gave Hogan a perfect 10 out of 10 for showmanship but only 1 out of 10 for wrestling ability.

I stopped watching wrestling in about 1988 when, to me at least, it ceased to be even remotely believable. I also didn't like the sleazy storylines.
