Arguello Kayos Escalera One of the all-time ring greats, Alexis Arguello of Nicaragua, knocks out game Alfredo Escalera in the 13th round of their WBC superfeatherweight title rematch on February 4, 1979 in Rimini, Italy. Arguello's Spanish nickname translated to 'The Explosive Thin Man.' You'll see why. Watch carefully: The knockout punch comes suddenly. Howard Cosell calls the action.

For all you non-boxing fans, that combination of a left jab followed by a left hook is extremely rare. It's an unnatural bodily movement. Try to mimic it; you'll see.

There were some great Latin boxers in the 70's. Roberto Duran, Carlos Monzon, and Alexis Arguello.

I just finished reading a biography on the great Alexis Arguello. It's title is Beloved Warrior--which is a perfect fit.

I don't know of any boxer who was more universally liked than Arguello was. His popularity transcended all ethnic groups and nationalities. Even the opponents he knocked oout admired him tremendously.

Arguello may have been the best technical fighter I've ever seen in my life. He was a true master of his craft and beautiful to watch.
