Established in 1883, the team originated in Brooklyn, New York, where it was known as the Brooklyn Dodgers, before moving to Los Angeles before the 1958 season; which is why I posted it in 1950s.

One of the great injustices of all time was the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn. No doubt about it.
Small correction: The Brooklyn Dodgers were in the National League starting in 1890. There had been a Brooklyn team in the American Association (then a major league) earlier.

Being a fan of Boston, I do admit I hated seeing the Dodgers moving to LA!
