Some trivia about Roberto Clemente:

He played in 14 World Series games and got at least oe hit in each one.

Clemente is the only major leaguer who amassed exactly 3,000 hits.

There are two Pittsburgh Pirates in the Baseball Hall of Fame who wore #21: Clemente and Arky Vaughan. Both died on the water. Clemente, age 38, was killed when the plane he was in crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. Vaughan, age 40, drowned on a fishing trip.

The first World Series I ever watched was the 1971 Fall Classic: Pirates vs. Orioles. Clemente understated excellence made a huge impression on me. I was stunned a year later when I heard on the radio he was missing in a plane crash. I can still picture where I was when I heard the news.

Time surely does fly! This is the 40th anniversary of the airplane disaster that took Roberto's life.

I have never heard anyone say anything bad about Roberto Clemente.
