Buster Keaton Falling Wall Stunt From the 1928 silent film Steamboat Bill Jr., this 18-second clip is one of the greatest stunts ever filmed--and all Buster Keaton had to do was stand still. That wall weighed five thousand pounds! Many of the movie crew were convinced Keaton would be killed and chose to walk off the set rather than watch this incredibly dangerous stunt.

THE FORGOTTEN VICTIMS OF WWII The Greatest Mass Rape in History One of this century's greatest crimes, and probably one of the greatest crimes against women in history, was the mass rape of the conquered women of Europe in 1945. The rapists were mainly Red Army soldiers, some of them non-White troops from the Far East and Central Asian Republics of the Soviet Union. As the Red Army advanced toward her in 1945, the city of Berlin had become a city virtually without men. Out of a civilian population of 2,700,000, 2,000,000 were women. Former Soviet war correspondent Natalya Gesse recalled: "The Russian soldiers were raping every German female from eight to 80... It was an army of rapists." The rape victims were not just Germans. Polish women also suffered. So did young Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian women who had been sent back to Germany by the Wehrmacht for slave labor. As Author Antony Beevor put it, "If anything, the events of 1945 reveal how thin the veneer of civilization can be when there is little fear of retribution." Far Away From Home Since 1942, Armed Forces Radio and later, Television Service (AFRTS) has been providing information, education, and most importantly, entertainment to U.S. military forces everywhere. From broadcasts to the troops serving around the world in WWII, from Soul during the Korean War, Saigon throughout the Vietnam War, to stations in Europe and Iraq today. Since 1942, through today, wherever American men and women serve, a bit of the "hometown" travels with them. Thanks to Armed Forces Radio and later the Armed Forces Network the entertainment that they held so dear is never really far away. In a way that is perhaps never realized at the moment, when we heard the music that we really never are Far Away From Home Film Clips and Video Footage: Official and Amateur footage Vincent Romano Archives http://www.webalice.it/romanoarchives/ The Armed Forces Network http://www.afneurope.net/ jnaz33 http://www.youtube.com/jnaz33 ReptilianGems http://www.youtube.com/ReptilianGems galtcitycouncil http://www.youtube.com/galtcitycouncil Jamie "RustyJms" http://www.youtube.com/RustyJms John "WolfieRed1" http://www.youtube.com/WolfieRed1 Ecapsym http://www.myspace.com/yagsi_ecapsym Jay "MyEarbot" http://www.youtube.com/user/MyEarbot marcofrix http://www.youtube.com/marcofrix rusherecumbent http://www.youtube.com/rusherecumbent Audio Clips OTRCAT (pronounced 'oh-tee-R cat' - from Old Time Radio Catalog) http://www.otrcat.com music nowhere to run - Martha and the Vandellas going up the country - Canned Heat somebody to love - Jefferson Airplane sunshine of your love - Cream papa's Got a Brand New Bag - James Brown i can't get no satisfaction - The Rolling Stones reflections - Diana Ross & the Supremes war - Edwin Starr we've gotta get out of this place - the Animals changes - David Bowie fat bottom girls - Queen smoke on the water - Deep Purple featuring the voices of Don Wilson Harry von Zell avacadoazzurro and of course ... Steven Truscott Case 1959 Canada's most famous criminal case of the 20th century revolved around the rape and murder of 12-year-old Lynne Harper near Clinton, Ontario in 1959. A schoolmate, 14-year-old Steven Truscott, stood trial, was convicted of murder, and sentenced to hang. The sentence was eventually reduced to life imprisonment. With some doubts lingering over the accuracy of Truscott's conviction, and sympathy because of his age, Truscott was eventually paroled from prison in 1969. He lived for many years in Guelph, Ontario under an assumed name. In 2000 he shed his alias and began to publicly clamor for a new trial. Truscott's conviction was eventually overturned in 2007 because of what the Ontario Court of Appeals perceived as "a miscarriage of justice," though the court did not formally declare him innocent. Truscott was also awarded a $6.5 million settlement by the Province of Ontario. Is Truscott a murderer? Polls generally show Canadians think he is innocent by a 3:1 ratio. However the Harper family, usually forgotten by the media and the Truscott advocates, is convinced of Truscott's guilt. The victim's older brother has publicly called the payment to Truscott a travesty. The news of it seriously affected the health of Lynne's aged father. And little Lynne Harper remains 12 years old forever...

Halifax Explosion On December 6th of 1917, the worst pre atom bomb explosion in history occured in Halifax NS. Two ships, the Imo, and munitions ship the Mont Blanc collided in the Halifax harbor, and within 10 minutes, the Mont Blanc was ablaze, and the explosion took place about 25 minutes after that, at approx. 9:05 AM. The top picture was taken about 15 to 20 seconds after the blast from 21 kilometers away, The bottom picture is 2 days following the devastation, with the Imo shipwrecked in the harbor about mid picture. It is estimated about 2000 lives were lost, and without the help of train dispatcher Vince Coleman, who lost his life in the blast, more would have died as a passenger train from here in Saint John was expected to arrive in Halifax momentarily. Mr. Coleman sent a warning via Morse Code stating, "Stop trains. Munitions ship on fire. Approaching Pier 6. Goodbye",and would not stop until he recieved a message back from the train. Mr. Coleman saved about 300 lives, but lost his own due to his heroism.
