Disney's first live-action movie mixed in animated scenes to tell the stories of kindly ol Uncle Remus, including the tales of Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear … and the Tar Baby. The movie, which had faced accusations that it promoted racial stereotypes and the idea of the slave-slavemaster relationship in a positive light, won a 1947 Best Song Oscar for the song on this clip, Zip a Dee Doo Dah, and was a major cultural force in its day. But it's been on the shelves for half a century and has never been released on home video in the U.S. because of Disney's concerns that depictions in the film viewed in today's world, might not be viewed as kindly or as politically correct. However the studio is currently mulling over the idea of DVD release as soon as 2008. In my opinion, this is a film that made millions of children happy. It was adults who put an end to that. I hope you'll enjoy this with the same sentiments as in which it was posted.

Extremely historic place for Hollywood buffs. Spanish Revival style. Opened in 1929 with owners including Louis B. Meyer, Douglas Fairbanks, and Mary Pickford. The first academy awards were held here in 1928 or 1929 (then called the "Merit Awards") in the "Blossom Room". The set for the TV show "This is Your Life" was located here. The Cinegrill was a famous 1940s nightclub still existing inside. Marilyn Monroe used to stay here and her ghost is said to still haunt the halls (hey - it helps business). Reasonable rates, but rooms facing Hollywood Blvd may be a bit noisier. You can see the hotel in the films Beverly Hills Cop II and Charlie's Angels 2.

One of the great legends of country music was Marty Robbins. His musical accomplishments include the first Grammy Award ever awarded for a country song, for his 1959 hit and signature song "El Paso", taken from his album Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. "El Paso" was also the first song to hit #1 on the pop chart in the 1960s. He won the Grammy Award for the Best Country & Western Recording 1961, for his follow-up album More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, and was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1970, for "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife." Robbins was named "Artist of the Decade" (1960-69) by the Academy of Country Music, was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982, and was given a Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1998 for his song "El Paso". Robbins was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1975. For his contribution to the recording industry, Robbins has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6666 Hollywood Blvd.

The Wonders Years was an oustanding ABC TV series that ran from 1988 through 1993. It chronicled the adolescent years of a suburbanite boy, Kevin Arnold, from 1968 through 1973. I've always thought it was a very accurate portrayal of how teenage boys think and react. (I'm speaking from experience here!) Sadly, The Wonder Years will likely never be available on DVD because of music licensing issues. Here is the last scene that wrapped up this excellent series.

Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) Heaven On Their Minds (2)This movie was filmed on location in Israel. The ruins of Avdat, the greatest Nabatean city in the Negev, lie on a limestone hill overlooking the desert. The remains include two impressive Bysantine churches, a wine press, and many other interesting finds. The place is under the auspices of the Avdat National Park.
