1920 Houdini Poster In the 1920s, after many years entertaining crowds as an escape artist, Houdini changed his show to expose the methods and motivations of the Spiritualists, a group who claimed they could contact the dead through séances. Testifying against them in Congress, he also exposed their tricks while on stage, an act he turned into a Broadway show. Soon, Houdini received death threats from the group.

The Prisoner The Prisoner is a 1967 UK television series starring Patrick McGoohan as Englishman who, after resigning from his position as a top-level government agent, is held captive in a small, colourful village for reasons only hinted at to him (or viewers). Each episode typically features the imprisoned former agent, known as "Number Six", failing to escape "the Village", but resisting the interrogation and brainwashing attempts by his captors. Patrick McGoohan`s catch phrase became well known..."I am not a number — I am a free man!" i do not know if this hit the US tv`s

DIRTY DANCING The Time of My Life Dirty Dancing was a 1987 film which is credited as being one of the most watched films of all time. The film stars Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Cynthia Rhodes, and Jerry Orbach. The story details the moment of time when a teenage girl crosses over into womanhood both physically and emotionally, through a relationship with a dance instructor during a family summer vacation in the Catskills. Approximately one third of the movie involves dancing scenes, and the finale is considered by many to be "the most goosebump-inducing dance scene in movie history.

Did This Scare You Out of the Water For anyone who hasn't seen this film, Jaws is a 1975 thriller directed by Steven Spielberg, based on Peter Benchley's best-selling novel inspired by the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. Jaws bears similarities to several literary and artistic works, most notably Moby-Dick by Herman Melville. The character of Quint strongly resembles Captain Ahab, the obsessed captain of the Pequod who devotes his life to hunting a sperm whale. Quint's monologue reveals his similar vendetta against sharks, and even his boat, the Orca, is named after the only natural enemy of sharks. A direct reference to these similarities may be found in the original screenplay, which introduced Quint by showing him watching the film version of Moby-Dick. His laughter throughout made people get up and leave the theater (Wesley Strick's screenplay for Cape Fear featured a similar scene). However, the scene from Moby-Dick could not be licensed from Gregory Peck, the owner of the rights. The final scenes of the film, in which the men chase the shark and try to harpoon it with flotation barrels, parallel the chase for Moby-Dick in the novel. We have this in our library and watch it usually once a month. There's something about this film that sticks in my memory, and no, I never went back into the water.

Remembering Bud Abbott on his Birthday October 2 Even though Bud Abbott played it straight for partner Lou Costello for years, he did have his shining moments, here's one of them when Bud shows Lou a magic trick that he's working on. It's from The Colgate Comedy Hour.

Harold Lloyd Safety Last This is the final 10-1/2 minutes of Safety Last!--a silent 1923 Harold Lloyd film. Lloyd, despite his meek appearance, excelled at physical comedy. In this movie Lloyd has to take the place of a friend who was supposed to do a human fly act and climb the outside of the office building where Lloyd works. This is real, folks! There was no trick photography. Lloyd used a stunt double for the long shots in this clip, but all the harrowing closeups were of Lloyd. Lloyd had only a thin mattress on the sidewalk if he happened to fall. Safety last, indeed!

Worlds Costliest Ad After 606 Takes And you thought those people that set up a room full of dominos to knock over were amazing... believe it or not, just unbelievable!! When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it immediately without any hesitation, including the costs. There are six, and only six, hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them to make this film. There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film. Everything you see really happened in real time, exactly as you see it. The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up again. The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. The film cost six million dollars and took three months to complete including full engineering of the sequence. In addition, it is two minutes long so every time Honda airs the film on British television, they're shelling out enough dough to keep any one of us in clover for a lifetime. Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp and complete Honda Accord) are parts from those two cars. And how about those funky windshield wipers...?? At a cost of $6.2 million for 90-sec commercial, this is the world's costliest ad and hands down winner in the world of ads.

Think Twice Before Tricking This Halloween Remember when you went trick-or-treating as a kid, and there was always the neighbor that handed out the lame candy? In this ad for Snickers, you'll see what can happen when that very neighbor suddenly needs the help from some kids as he clings to the roof of his second story house after a Halloween un-decorating mishap. The message here is hell hath no fury like a surly trick-or-treater!
