The Tweel 8 track tapes, vinyl records, analog TV, Windows OS 3.1, 95, or 98, and a host of other items have come and gone in the past, and your car tires could go this way eventually. Michelin is experimenting with The Tweel, an airless tire that could make the inner tube a thing of the past. The pros are that having a flat tire would become a thing of the past, when the tread is worn, it can be replaced, as opposed to discarding whole tires, lessening the environmental impact by reducing the rubber discarded, and the polyurethane spokes can be designed to handle differing road conditions, but it isn't ready for market yet. Driving over 50 mph can result in undesirable vibrations, also the sound is loud to the ears when driven at high speeds. When these new airless tires eventually hit the market, there might be another valuable item though that goes the way of the dinosaur. Apparently spike strips are useless against them. I can't see law enforcement officers being overly enthusiastic about this new technology!

Happy Birthday PAUL WILLIAMS Sept 19th 1940 Paul Williams wrote the soundtrack for a generation. His songs were everywhere in the 1970s -- you could hear them on the radio, television, movies, and The Muppets. The simple honesty of his lyrics still captures attention and spurs the imagination. This song, The Rainbow Connection seems to fit him so well. Happy Birthday Paul Williams, you've given us happy memories!

John Denver Rocky Mountain High In 1972, Denver scored his first top ten album, with Rocky Mountain High, while its title track reached the Top Ten in 1973. In 1974, "Sunshine on My Shoulders" and "Annie's Song" both went to number one, and "Back Home Again" made it to number five. In 1975, he again had two number ones, "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" and "Calypso/I'm Sorry," and a top twenty hit, "Sweet Surrender." Key to Denver's success were his many appearances on television, which in the pre-MTV era of the 1970s, with his long blond hair, embroidered 'western' shirts, affable manner & granny glasses, made him one of the first truly "tele-genic" pop stars. In subsequent years, Denver had a lower-profile career. He had a few more U.S. Top 30 hits as the 1970s ended, but nothing to match the success he enjoyed earlier. As his career slowed down, Denver focused more on humanitarian and sustainability work. He worked extensively on conservation projects and helped to create the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. On October 12, 1997, Denver was killed when the Long-EZ aircraft he was piloting crashed just off the coast of California at Pacific Grove, shortly after taking off from the Monterey Peninsula Airport.

Chicago Hard to Say Im Sorry 1982 The band began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental rock band and later moved to a softer sound, becoming famous for producing a number of hit ballads. They had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Second only to the Beach Boys, Chicago, in terms of singles and albums, is one of the longest running and most successful U.S. pop/rock and roll groups. According to Billboard, Chicago was the leading U.S. singles charting group during the 1970s. In 1973 the group's manager, produced and directed Electra Glide in Blue, a movie about an Arizona motorcycle policeman. The movie starred Robert Blake, and featured Cetera, Kath, Loughnane, and Parazaider in supporting roles. The group also appeared prominently on the movie's soundtrack. 1978 was a tragic and transitional year for Chicago. The year began with an acrimonious split with long-time manager James William Guercio. Then, in late January, guitarist/singer/songwriter Terry Kath died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound (reportedly incurred while cleaning his gun), delivering a devastating blow to the band. Another version describes Kath's drunken last words to the band: "Don't worry, guys. It isn't even loaded. See?".
