Signs featuring mangled English (such as the one shown here) are commonplace in China. The Chinese government has vowed to crack down on those who assault the English language in time for the influx of tourists expected in 2008 for the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Original theatrical trailer. Marty Allen and Steve Rossi, two American tourists in France, are given a multipurpose umbrella and pitted against an international band of art thieves. Among the stolen treasures is the Statue Of Liberty. Nancy Sinatra plays Steve's girl and she sings the title song. Supporting cast includes John Williams, Lou Jacobi, Sig Ruman, Harvey Korman, Edy Williams and Ed Sullivan. Terrible Allen and Rossi film, great Nancy Sinatra theme song! This film appeared on AMC, years ago. Like their unaired, unsold 1965 TV pilot "HELLO DERE!", this didn't do much for Allen & Rossi's career....

The Great Depression did not produce many happy stories, but the birth of the Dionne quintuplets near remote Callander, Ontario, Canada in 1934 was at least outwardly a feel-good news item of the decade. Five identical girls were born to Elzire Dionne on May 28, 1934. They were attended to by a country doctor, Roy Allan Dafoe. Never before had quintuplets survived infancy. The story turned sour when the quints were made wards of the Ontario government because of the financial straits of the Dionne family and other concerns. The provincial government built Quintland, a tourist attraction where the girls were put on public display for the numerous visitors who travelled the Trans-Canada Highway to northern Ontario to see them. Quintland served as a home for the girls who were cared for by nurses, as well as a museum and viewing area for the tourists. Eventually some three million tourists came to Quintland--as many as 6,000 each day at its peak. (There was no admission charge to see the quints, but the region reaped millions of dollars in revenues from hotels, restaurants, etc.) At one point, the quints were Canada's top tourist attraction, surpassing Niagara Falls. The quints were isolated from the outside world and even from their parents and other siblings. The Dionne parents staged years of legal challenges to regain custody of their estranged daughters. They finally succeeded in 1943. The three surviving quints were awarded a large cash settlement in the late 1990s by the Ontario government. Only two of the girls survive today.

The house was built in 1890, served as an immigrant hotel, sat in decline for decades. In 1944, hosted tourists and immigrants from different countries. It is near Puerto Madero and in the heart of the city. The hotel has been named after its first owner, a French man. Was finally transformed into a modest but carefully restored 25-room B&B. It has high ceilings, carpeted rooms and loads of ornate trim work.
The original iron elevator is a work of art and still functions, but you'll have to climb the wooden staircase from street level yourself. Modest stained-glass ceilings adorn the hallway.

Ralph McTell's song has been recorded by many artists. This is one of those songs that tug at the heart strings. Every City no matter where has it's underbelly that the tourists usually don't see. Though many circumstances make people homeless please remember they are still people and there for the grace of God go you or I.
