Tell It To Groucho - 1962 After hosting the hugely successful You Bet Your Life on TV from 1950 to 1961, 70-year-old Groucho Marx was persuaded to return to the tube with Tell It To Groucho--a short-lived game show that aired for just five months on CBS in 1962 before being axed. The show was similar to YBYL, where the ad-libbed comedic banter between Groucho and the contestants was far more important than the game. This time the game portion was almost an afterthought. To win $500, contestants had to identify celebrities whose pictures were only shown for a split second. The show had a rotten time slot. It was directly pitted against Dr. Kildare on NBC and My Three Sons on ABC. Early in the show's run, Groucho wrote to a friend and described his on-air assistant, Patty Harmon, as "a sprightly young doll with oversized knockers who leaps around the stage with all the abandon of a young doe being pursued by an elderly banker". (Harmon was a onetime runner-up in the Miss Connecticut pageant and had been a contestant on YBYL. She later got some acting gigs as Joy Harmon. Her most famous role was in Cool Hand Luke; she's the busty blonde who provocatively washes her car within eyeshot of the aroused chain-gang prisoners.) Groucho never had another regular TV show after the last episode of Tell It To Groucho aired on May 31, 1962.

1964 Sixties Makeup by Wally Westmore For a dollar and a soap wrapper, famed Hollywood makeup artist Wally Westmore will give you your own personal beauty analysis in this November 1964 Seventeen magazine Dial soap ad featuring popular model Colleen Corby. As mentioned in the trivia game number 65 here at YRT, Westmore did the makeup for the 1932 horror film Island of Lost Souls. 32-years later this respected beauty authority graced the pages of teen fashion tome Seventeen magazine. The juxtaposition here is humorous.

1976: Tom Jones! United Kingdom's true gentleman was born way back in 1940. That would make him 71 today! He still can be found being where he loves. Any guesses? Some of you may know, he had strong acceptance in '76 for a number that brought new attention. But it was after 12 years time, he refocused on newer stuff that would give him more last'n appeal. Well, that did hit the right idea then with his very own son. You see, for a time, the man was facing, or even just dealing with the prospect of being forgotten. His son put him in-the-right with a solid partnership, adding the best approach in making TJ more sought after. It worked! Even his long-standing marriage has worked too! Ever since he tied the knot in the late 1950s. Wow, that is interesting, considering who he is. His happy '57 marriage needs an exclamation mark! But how is it possible that he avoided any difficulties? *E*

Without a Clue - Game 30 - Solved I have come on deciding that another game is clearly in order. Who of you has the skill on drawing an answer? Now I gotta deal with my harvest of pumpkins. Needless to say, I gotta earn a buck somehow. Either that, or I'll have a rough riding this December. Dealing with life's realities is only half the battle with a short-lived white ghost pumpkin patch. I don't know if it will be profitable? Confused? That is part of the game. UPDATE- SOLVED! *E*

1975: Science Fiction - Double Feature (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) As Halloween gradually comes to us yearly, I thought of something that may indicate more than pumpkins and ghosts. How about eggs. The connection? For starters, it made a fortune, with the being seen on the London stage in '73, but eventually crossing over finally in the later half of the Seventies. It was a high energy adaption that was unlike anything then. A big ghoulish step towards those that really found what it represented to themselves.... identification with the suffering extraterrestrials, including one who is an ax-murderer! It was supposed to be similar to a "B"-flick, all wrapped up refreshingly with weirdo-types and cursed aliens from years gone by. Now, it's known by many as a late-at-night event/presentation at the end of each October. But this is up to you. Have you seen it through the year? I remember going weekends in the '70s/ early '80s. How about you? Summer? Spring? It is as well known for irreparably changing people through the course of it's vivid story that revolves around delusional cannibals. Just think, it almost didn't happen for Richard. He had been fired from a different show then, and in desperateness, he had started a new beginning for himself with an idea. Question. Were you affected by its multifaceted story too? Or were you hit in the head with a bathroom paper-roll? So, with starting sometime in '76, it gradually became the longest-running night time screen event. Really. It'll never go out of fashion, as each year, it goes on and on. All beginning from a wooden stage platform, in dreary London, at the decadent Royal Court, way back in 1973. Still, the whole notion of it on a screen was ridiculous to some then. But, as I have stated, a few months later, a late night drawing at the Waverly Theater in NYC on April Fools Day '76 started it all up. Honestly, it had to be seen to be really understood. And now, with all that, it still carries on at various cities globally - indebted to ghoulish surprises that go lurking in the night. You have now been briefed. Like it? By the way, did you know that their are plenty of eggs in this film. Eggs? Yes. They were placed in various hidden spots, an Easter Bunny prank at the time. *E*

1975: The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Cinema Preview Created out of the darkness, a unique spin at following the shambling fortunes of two very wet lost folk in the woods. That's not all though, with now the unknown before them, they in the manor, who came from some different place unseen, were looking at turning them (the two) from unexpected guests into subjects. They, the inhabitants, they were not average. No, not at all. What had began in 09/75 with a California theater was however puzzling. What was taking place? Other methods being used to draw people into other presentations weren't working like it. But across state-lines, it wasn't really that hot. Soon enough, it changed with interest. A year later, 12 am was more suitable for the stretch of weird actions, brought repeatedly on weekends. It was unheard of. Who exactly came up with that idea? Soon, Texans and New Yorkers caught on with winding oneself to the confetti littered seating at a late time. It was an timely start that went over well to other suburbs you may know of. How about cities like Portland and Milwaukee? They never closed their doors. And it all originated from the stage culture found across London. Will you tell us, were you one who was involved in the strangest suggestiveness? It should be noted that Miss Susan, had actually got herself very sick during the weeks that were spent in England. Reason: Too wet and cold! What a sad state to be in. All in all, it took eight weeks to to put it into a soon to be hit. As you know, that took a lot of convincing and luck at the right time. *E*

Lido Shuffle: Boz Scaggs 1976-1977 Now, of course, as you may already know, I always got something planned with a special interest in it for you. We know, with life in general, sometimes we are lucky enough with some who can bring something impending cool into our life. I'm talking about a piece from '76 that ran into the next year and on. Remember William Royce Scaggs? Remember the slick hair and colored tux jacket? You do know the last name. A majority of you can recall all that with that sort of description. Well, the gent was born in 1944, over in northeastern Ohio, in a city called Canton. Best known these days as the birthplace of American professional football. I use to know next to nothing about the place until recently. With the Ohioian, he worked a long time in the business, starting out in 1965, trying hard to make a name for himself with his first effort. Speaking of first. He was first known as "Bosley" by pals in his younger days, until going with his now established name. There was something real special about him as others found out soon enough. But, he'd have to wait a while before things really took off for him, long before traveling over to European cities, which many of his kind did back then. Eventually with time, he had struck a deal with a good friend. In place was a strong working relationship with Steve Miller's The Marksmen. He had fit himself there with the mic for a short while. Soon after, both tried other possibilities together. In 1968, they worked on two neat collaborations. Do you know about "Children of the Future" or the "Sailor" releases? Time passed, as finally in the sixth year of the 1970s, Scaggs hooked himself up with a few guys that would go on to becoming the favored Toto. Together now, they really perked things up for the guy. It was his big break. It was huge around-the-world. No matter how many times he puts a hold on his long career, he always bounces back time and time again. These days, he can be found on the road with other gigs being checked out by the likes of you. For a time, he brought the right mix of cool without any comparison of the sort. *E*

Get Smart TV Guide Cover 1967 Barbara Feldon and Don Adams of Get Smart grace this TV Guide cover from 1967. Get Smart was an extremely popular spy spoof that ran on NBC from 1965 to 1970 that pitted the counter-espionage activities of CONTROL versus the nefarious deeds of KAOS. The show introduced the phrase "would you believe..." into popular culture. The youthful looking Adams was ten years Feldon's senior. Adams won three consecutive Emmys playing Maxwell Smart (CONTROL agent 86). Feldon was nominated for two Emmys for her role as CONTROL agent 99. Adams was a WWII veteran who was the only survivor from a platoon that saw action on Guadalcanal. Feldon first gained fame by winning the jackpot on The $64,000 Question. Her subject was Shakespeare.

Weightlifter Vasili Alexeyev 1942-2011 It has been reported that Vasili Alexeyev, the Soviet weightlifter who utterly dominated the super-heavyweight division of the sport during most of the 1970s, died in Germany on November 25, 2011 at the age of 69. He was at a clinic seeking treatment for a serious heart ailment. Alexeyev easily won gold medals at both the 1972 and 1976 Olympics and won eight straight world championships from 1970 to 1977. (The Olympics doubled as weightlifting's world championships in 1972 and 1976.) Alexeyev, who set 80 world records in his career, was listed as a "mining engineer" by Soviet sports authorities. Alexeyev was the first man to lift 500 pounds in competition. But his fans were fickle: When the 38-year-old Alexeyev failed to make any of his three lifts at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, he was jeered off the stage. In a 1971 interview, the affable Alexeyev said he liked to spend his spare time reading Agatha Christie mystery novels.
