ANGIE Intro 1979 to 1980 This was a decent enough 70's sitcom, that aired on Thursdays at 8:30pm on ABC, starring Donna Pescow, Robert Hayes, and Doris Roberts. Even back then Doris was cast as the opinionated, outspoken Italian mother, who spent most of her time in the kitchen cooking pasta. Of course, her character was molded from real life because most Italian mothers are exactly like this. Ahhh, some things never change.

Easter Eggs Symbolize New Life Of all the symbols associated with Easter, the egg, the symbol of fertility and new life, is the most identifiable. The customs and traditions of using eggs have been associated with Easter for centuries. Originally Easter eggs were painted with bright colors to represent the sunlight of spring and were used in Easter-egg rolling contests or given as gifts. After they were colored and etched with various designs the eggs were exchanged by lovers and romantic admirers, much the same as valentines. In medieval time eggs were traditionally given at Easter to the servants. In Germany eggs were given to children along with other Easter gifts. Different cultures have developed their own ways of decorating Easter eggs. Crimson eggs, to honor the blood of Christ, are exchanged in Greece. In parts of Germany and Austria green eggs are used on Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday). The Slavic people decorate their eggs in special patterns of gold and silver. In Germany and other countries eggs used for cooking where not broken, but the contents were removed by piercing the end of each egg with a needle and blowing the contents into a bowl. The hollow eggs were dyed and hung from shrubs and trees during the Easter Week. The Armenians would decorate hollow eggs with pictures of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and other religious designs. At the Jewish Passover Seder, a hard-boiled egg dipped in salt water symbolizes both new life and the Passover sacrifice offered at the Temple in Jerusalem.

Stay Awhile The Bells Hi all. Sorry I had to take a break from the site as my daughter was going through some turmoil and needed my attention. I hope all is well friends. I have to share an experience that was way beyond cool for me. I have recently been granted access to a local music studio that my nephewís rock band rents space in and I have been writing songs and practicing guitar up there for a couple of weeks now. Last Thursday night, I went to the studio, and was let in by my friend Tim. He was sitting with a friend, and I set off to the smoking room before I went to work. Tim and his friend come up, and we start talking. After about 10 minutes, I realize that Iíve seen Timís friend before, but couldnít place him. Then he made a comment about when he plays a certain song in concert, some people are really surprised to hear that he wrote it. The song is this one here, Stay Awhile, and the manís name is Ken Tobias. I couldnít believe it. This man had a string of Canadian hits in the mid 70s, and wrote this song that The Bells made famous. He is originally from here, but after a few years in Toronto and LA, he made the decision to come back home to live. He hung out with us all night, and was as cool as could be. A surreal moment came when sitting in Timís office, I looked across at Ken sitting on a couch and saw right above his head, a framed and signed album cover from him featuring his portrait from 1976. It was a night that I will remember for a long time. He is still very active in the local music scene here, and still performs occasionally. If we cross paths again, I must get a pic taken with him. I will post a Ken Tobias video later on, but I always loved this song. Very pretty melody. Thanks for letting me share a cool memory for me friends.

We Missed Allan Melvin Passing aka Sam The Butcher Some how we missed Allan Melvin's passing back in January. A character actor best known for playing Sam the Butcher on "The Brady Bunch," has died. He was 84. Melvin died of cancer Thursday at his home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles, said Amalia Melvin, his wife of 64 years. The jowly, jovial Melvin spent decades playing a series of sidekicks, second bananas and lovable lugs, including Archie Bunker's friend Barney Hefner on "All in the Family," and Sgt. Bilko's right-hand man Cpl. Henshaw on the "Phil Silvers Show." But his place in pop culture will be fixed as butcher and bowler Sam Franklin, the love interest of Brady family maid Alice Nelson, who was played by Ann B. Davis. Melvin played the role from 1970 to 1973. Born in Kansas City, Mo., in 1923, Melvin grew up in New York and attended Columbia University. He was appearing on Broadway in "Stalag 17" when he began his decades-long television career with "The Phil Silvers Show," playing a role his wife said was always his favorite. "He was proudest of that show," Amalia Melvin said. "I think the camaraderie of all those guys made it such a pleasant way to work. They were so relaxed." He saw steady employment as a voice actor from the early 1960s to the early 1990s, most famously providing the voice of "Magilla Gorilla" for the Hanna Barbera cartoon of the same name. His other credits include several guest appearances on "The Andy Griffith Show," "Gomer Pyle: USMC," and "The Dick Van Dyke Show."
