Drag racing was a "new" thing in the early fifties. It was still an outcast activity seeking the direction needed to ensure its survival as a legitimate, and legal activity. The legions of young men who had a desire to test their homemade cars in open competition would find that direction with the birth of the National Hot Rod Association.
One of the first drag strips to operate on a regular basis was in Reyes own backyard. The Santa Ana drags were conducted at the local airport, and in 1955, a then fourteen-year-old Larry Reyes took his first trip down that historical quarter mile. His mother's Volkswagen was his first ride . . .

When the Beatles announced their break up in the winter of 1970, CCR became the most successful band and the biggest singles act in the world, despite never landing a #1 single. Always very private, the group never became stars personally to befit their status on the pop charts. They sought to change that with the release of Pendulum. Before the album's release, they had a fan type book written. Called "Inside Creedence", the book took about six weeks from the time it was conceived until it was actually published, coincidental with the release of Pendulum. In fact, many copies of the book were sold packaged with the record. The band also made a television special and had a $30,000 press junket to ballyhoo the album. The record shipped a million copies. A Rare black and white promo from 1962.
"The Jetsons," aired on prime time after 16 months in development, was set in 2062, 100 years after the first episode was broadcast.
Supposedly, the series had no chance at survival, because it was scheduled opposite "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" and "Dennis the Menace," which had both built up an audience in previous seasons.
However, ABC continued to show the original 24 episodes of "The Jetsons" for 15 years!
The laugh track was removed when Worldvision syndicated these episodes in 1985. Episode title cards were added to all of the Jetsons shows, old and new, and a remake of the old Jetsons theme song was employed for use.

To me, this song must have exemplified the feelings of hundreds of thousands of Jewish immigrants on their journey to the US. Though it wouldn't be easy to leave the only homes they'd ever known, it was the only choice they had for survival.

This is clipped from Trial by Fire: A Carrier Burns, a 1973 film produced by the United States Navy about the devastating 1967 fire aboard USS Forrestal off the coast of Vietnam. The film is unique in that it was produced from actual footage of the fire and emergency response efforts, both successful and unsuccessful, taken by on board cameras. Due to the first bomb blast killing nearly all of the specially trained firefighters on the ship, the remaining crew, who had no formal firefighting training, had to improvise. Though there were many firefighting tools available on the Forrestal, including emergency respirators, the general crew was not trained in their use and so were unable to use them correctly. In response to this tragedy, recommendations made were: development of a remote-control fire-fighting system for the flight deck, development of more stable ordnance, improvement in survival equipment, and increased training in emergency response and fire survival. This film has been used to teach new recruits firefighting and emergency response lessons learned in the mishap.
