Disney's first live-action movie mixed in animated scenes to tell the stories of kindly ol Uncle Remus, including the tales of Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear … and the Tar Baby. The movie, which had faced accusations that it promoted racial stereotypes and the idea of the slave-slavemaster relationship in a positive light, won a 1947 Best Song Oscar for the song on this clip, Zip a Dee Doo Dah, and was a major cultural force in its day. But it's been on the shelves for half a century and has never been released on home video in the U.S. because of Disney's concerns that depictions in the film viewed in today's world, might not be viewed as kindly or as politically correct. However the studio is currently mulling over the idea of DVD release as soon as 2008. In my opinion, this is a film that made millions of children happy. It was adults who put an end to that. I hope you'll enjoy this with the same sentiments as in which it was posted.

October 3,1952 to May 11,1956.
The trials and tribulations of Connie Brooks, the
wisecracking English teacher at Madison High School.
Stories revolved around her romantic misadventures as she
struggled to impress fellow teacher Philip Boynton (Robert Rockwell and played on the radio show by Jeff Chandler), the biology
instructor; and her continual clash with crusty,
blustery Osgood P. Conklin (Gale Gordon), the principal. Connie rented a room from kindly old Mrs. Davis and rode to school each morning with one of her students,
the dimwitted Walter Denton (Richard Crenna). This was a great show. My daughter, who collects old radio shows, has an entire set of these and they had me in stitches every night!

One of the first major 'ongoing' news stories to be covered live on television was the coal mining disaster in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada on October 23, 1958. That night 174 miners were trapped 13,000 feet below ground when a 'bump' caused a huge section of the mine to collapse. It was the third major disaster at the mine since 1891. Exactly 100 miners were rescued; some were trapped for five days before being saved. The bodies of the other 74 were all eventually recovered. Because of the heat at that depth, many of the corpses had badly decomposed by the time they were found. The mine never reopened.

Network series that ran from 1974-1975. Carl Kolchak, played so well by Darren McGavin, was a reporter for Chicago's Independent News Service, and a magnet for situations involving the supernatural. He turned his investigative skills to vampires, werewolves, zombies and all kinds of legendary creatures, but in the end he always failed to convince his skeptical editor, Tony Vincenzo, played by Simon Oakland, that the stories weren't just products of his own overworked imagination. I was so faithful to this show, and was so disappointed when they cancelled it.

The third and final story from the 1969 pilot of Night Gallery, entitled The Escape Route, starred Richard Kiley, and centered around an escaped Nazi war criminal living in South America and haunted by his past. He begins to visit a museum where he is drawn to a painting of a fisherman on a lake. It's such a peaceful setting, that he becomes obsessed with it and soon begins to see himself as the figure in the boat. He is soon recognized by a survivor of the camps, played by Sam Jaffe. When Israeli agents are about to catch up to him, he flees into the museum, and to the painting, there he begs God to take him into the painting. What he doesn't realize is, the painting has been moved and in it's place is one portraying the brutality of the holocaust. I think with all three stories, Rod was showing us that after all is said and done, there is justice.

Forty-eight hours shore leave isn't much time for three sailors (Tony Martin, Vic Damone, Russ Tamblyn) who've gone from patrolling straits to prowling for curves (Jane Powell, Debbie Reynolds, Ann Miller) in San Francisco...

I had a Pontiac Tempest which was a GTO wanna be when I was in high school. Had it until I got out of the Navy when on a rain slick road I hydroplaned and landed on top of huge bolder cracking the frame that caused it's demise. I still miss that car!

The Adventures of Robin Hood was a popular, long-running British television series that also aired in the US, starring Richard Greene as Robin Hood. Back in the early days of television, commercials were often built into the stories, as well as the opening and closing credits of the shows. This is an example of how it was done in the 1950's.

Here is the knock off to the Halloween movie series. The trailer was scarier than the actual movie. "Halloween 3" had nothing to do with the familiar figure known now as Michael Myers, this which "put-off" lots of theatergoers who wanted to see more of the 1978/1981 Myers personality on the theater screen.
This movie was supposed to be the start of a series of yearly films for the fans of the series, featuring stories based around Halloween themes.
Once again, due to a bad script that didn't live up to the expectations. The movie was watchable, it just wasn't scary enough for the series. The entire idea of yearly films was scrapped. Soon after though, the next number of movies brought back the what director/writer John Carpenter started with the original movie premise. The silent figure. Now, the series has recently started over, revisioned under a new direction these past few years, keeping with the original idea of continuing the John Carpenter character.
