William Everett Preston (September 2, 1946 – June 6, 2006) was an American soul musician from Houston, Texas, raised mostly in Los Angeles, California. In addition to his successful, Grammy-winning career as a solo artist, Preston collaborated with some of the greatest names in the music industry, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Little Richard, Ray Charles, George Harrison, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Sammy Davis Jr., Sly Stone, Aretha Franklin, the Jackson 5, Quincy Jones, Richie Sambora, and Red Hot Chili Peppers... Jackie Wilson first started his career in music in his native Detroit. He joined Billy Ward & the Dominoes in 1953, replacing Clyde McPhatter. After losing McPhatter, the group's only major recording success with Wilson came in June of 1956 with the single "St. Therese of The Roses" that reached number 13 on the Pop charts. His solo career began with 1957's "Reet Petite," written by the then-unknown Berry Gordy, Jr. He had his first top 40 hit in 1958 with "To Be Loved." At the end of that year he had his first big success with "Lonely Teardrops" that went to #7 on the charts. The song, also written by Gordy, became his signature tune. That same year saw Wilson release his first LP titled She's So Fine.
Wilson's brand of soul and R&B helped him cross over to the mainstream, having several pop hits. His dynamic stage performances earned him the nickname "Mr. Excitement." In another of his performances on Ed Sullivan's show, he sang "Lonely Teardrops" which was considered one of the show's classics. In the 1960s, Wilson continued to record singles, many of them operatic, such as "Danny Boy" or "Night," others were up-tempo and exciting, such as "Baby Workout" in 1963.
His career began to suffer in the mid-60s, though he managed a brief revival by collaborating with Carl Davis, a legendary Chicago producer. This resulted in two hits, "Whispers (Gettin' Louder)" and "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher". The revival was short-lived, though, and Wilson rarely charted in the 1970s. He suffered a massive heart attack while playing a Dick Clark show at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on September 29, 1975, falling head-first to the stage; he was singing "Lonely Teardrops". The blow to his head left him comatose. For the next eight years and four months he was in a vegetative state until his death at age 49.

John Lithgow is best known for his starring role as Dick Solomon in the NBC sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun. He has also achieved success on stage, film, and radio. He has earned multiple Emmy Awards and Tony Awards, as well as two Oscar nominations. He has also recorded music for children and holds a Master of Arts from Harvard University.

In 1960, a singer named Ben Nelson left the Drifters after failing to gain a salary increase and what he felt to be a fairer share of the group's royalties. He then assumed the more memorable stage name Ben E. King in preparation for a solo career. Remaining on Atlantic Records, King scored his first solo hit with the stylish, Latin-tinged ballad "Spanish Harlem" (1961). "Stand by Me" was his next recording. Written by King along with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, "Stand by Me" was voted one of the Songs of the Century by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Stand by Me" and "Spanish Harlem" were named as two of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and were both also given a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. In 1986, Stand By Me was re-issued following its use as the theme music to the movie of the same name. This video was made in the late 80's, with Ben E King and two of the stars of the film, River Phoenix and Will Wheaton.

This was Michael's appearance on the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. Ben was the theme of a 1972 film of the same name, and the sequel to the 1971 killer rat movie Willard, that starred Crispin Glover. It spent one week at the top of the U.S. charts. It also reached #1 in Australia, spending eight weeks at the top spot. Later it reached a peak of #7 in the United Kingdom. It became the first of thirteen #1 pop hits for Michael in the U.S. and his first #1 hit as a solo artist. Later on it was included on his album of the same name, "Ben", won a Golden Globe for Best Song, and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. I've always loved listening to this, the music is beautiful. Michael at 13 was such a nice looking young man who had such an amazing talent, he should have left well enough alone.

Gene Pitney passed away last April, 2006, of natural causes, he was 65, but he left a legacy of hits going back to the early 60's and had been touring for the last 40 years. His songs have been recorded by some of the world's biggest stars, Hello Mary Lou was released by Rick Nelson, Roy Orbison recorded Today's Teardrops as the B-side to his million-selling single, Blue Angel. He is also credited with helping the Rolling Stones break into the American market with his endorsement of the band. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote his hit That Girl Belongs to Yesterday which became the Stones duo's first composition to reach the American charts. Gene once recalled how his first solo performance at school degenerated into an embarrassing whimper as he was petrified by the expectant audience.
Overcoming his nerves over the next few years, Pitney learned to play the guitar and piano and formed a schoolboy band. It was during one of their gigs that his distinctive voice was discovered by the proverbial "fat man with a cigar" who took him off to New York, and the rest was history.

Danny was born David Daniel Kaminsky in Brooklyn in 1913, the son of an immigrant Russian tailor. After dropping out of high school he worked for a radio station and later as a comedian in the Catskills. After his solo success in the Catskills, he joined the dancing act of Harvey and Young in 1933. On opening night he lost his balance and the audience broke into a roar of laughter. He would later incorporate this into his act. Enjoying growing popularity in 1939, Danny won over the Broadway crowd that same year with his show-stopping comic singing in "Lady in the Dark," in which he rattled off the names of more than fifty polysyllabic Russian composers in 39 seconds in a song called "Tchaikovsky." Throughout the early 1940's he performed night club acts, on Broadway, and to support the troops overseas during WWII. Though he appeared in his first film in 1937, it wasn’t until almost 10 years later that his film career hit its stride. Throughout his career he starred in seventeen movies, including THE KID FROM BROADWAY (1946), THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY (1947), THE INSPECTOR GENERAL (1949), HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN (1952), and the incomparable THE COURT JESTER (1956). In one of his final performances, he proved the versatility of his talent and earned rave reviews for his impassioned portrayal of a Holocaust survivor in the 1981 television movie SKOKIE. In 1987 Danny died of a heart attack in Los Angeles. An amazing actor, singer, dancer, comic, and all-around entertainer, he was a Renaissance man off the stage as well as on, where he was a celebrated chef, a baseball team owner, and an airplane pilot, flying everything from Piper Cubs to Boeing 747’s. His deep and continued commitment to the betterment of the people of the world was an inspiration, and his intelligent humor created a style all his own that made him one of the most beloved entertainers of his time. From the tv show Hullabaloo in 1965. Bobby Goldsboro started out in the early sixties as a guitarist with Roy Orbison. During his three years with Orbison he traveled all over the world and even toured with The Beatles. In 1964 he began his solo career by recording the first of a string of sixteen top-forty hits, “See the Funny Little Clown.” One of his first concert bookings had him opening for the Rolling Stones on their first U.S. tour. More million-selling hits followed, setting the stage for 1968 and the classic, “Honey,” which became the largest-selling record in the world. “Watching Scotty Grow,” “Little Green Apples” and “With Pen in Hand” have also become classics.
