Creepy Brady Bunch Scene This weird Brady Bunch scene is from episode #83 titled 'Goodbye, Alice, Hello.' The original airdate was November 24, 1972. In it Alice prevents Bobby and Cindy from going to their neighbors' skinny-dipping pool party. The scene has been deleted from some syndicated prints.

Womens Roller Derby 1987 Ah, yes...good old roller derby. I believe this clip was from 1987 when this sport had a brief renaissance. You have to love Skinny Minnie Miller.

Risque Partridge Family Scenes A few years ago I posted a clip from The Brady Bunch that was seemingly okay when it aired in November 1972, but it has since been deleted from syndicated prints. (The scene involved Bobby and Cindy on their way to their new neighbors' skinny dipping pool party! Alice stops them, thankfully!) Similarly, here are assorted scenes from the fortieth episode of The Partridge Family, titled Home Is Where The Heart Was. It first aired on January 7, 1972. The plot centers around the two youngest Partridge kids deciding to run away from home after being scolded. The first 3-1/2 minutes are benign, but there's absolutely no way a TV network today would approve of the scenes in the following minute. Wow! Nudity and minors looking at porn on The Partridge Family! I must have missed this episode when I was a kid--or maybe it didn't mean anything to me at the time.

1963 Teens In The News What? Look at that skinny kid named Steve Spielberg. If only he had tried a little harder he could have made something of himself. LOL And we all know that 16-year-old pianist Andre Watts made musical history right out the gate! Amazingly, 14-year-old Francine Fox earned an Olympic silver medal one year later in Women's Kayak Doubles! At the 1964 Olympic Summer games in Tokyo, Francine Fox and Gloria Perrier paddled to a silver medal, trailing a German pair by two seconds. The pairing was interesting for the disparity in ages, as, in 1964, Fox was a 15-year-old high school student, while Perrier was 20 years older. I couldn't find the other teen in the news singer Nancy Hawk in Google, but these vintage Seventeen magazines have lots of fun surprises to offer!

Johnnie Ray 1927-1990 Johnnie Ray is almost forgotten today, but he was a huge singing star in the early 1950s. At the peak of his career, Ray's income was $35,000 a week. Born in Oregon in 1927, Ray had top 40 hits until 1957. Despite being skinny, pigeon-toed, half-deaf and effeminate, this highly emotional performer was the most popular male singer of the pre-Elvis Presely era. Indeed, when Elvis first started out, he was often introduced on stage as "the new Johnnie Ray". Known as "the Prince of Wails" for his distinctive singing style, Ray is mostly remembered for his lip-quivering early 1950s hits such as Cry; Please, Mr Sun; and The Little White Cloud That Cried. His live performances, in which he sometimes played the piano, were wildly unpredictable. It was not uncommon for Ray to break into tears or flop to the stage floor while belting out a tune. His 1954 recording of Such A Night was the first chart hit to be banned by the BBC for its "suggestive" lyrics. Several American radio stations followed suit. Nevertheless, it still ended up topping the British charts. Ray had an interesting personal life: He became deaf in his right ear at age 13 after an accident at a Boy Scout camp and prominently wore a large hearing aid for the rest of his life. He was twice arrested in Detroit for soliciting sex from men. The first arrest was in 1951 just before he became famous. (He quietly pled guilty and paid a fine.) The second arrest was in 1959, but he was acquitted by an all-female jury. He is rumored to have had a long affair with newspaper writer Dorothy Kilgallen (of What's My Line? fame) that began after his first of two mystery guest appearances on the show. Ray was a heavy drinker who was hospitalized for alcoholism in 1960. He died in 1990, at age 63, from liver disease.

Hot Dog-Eating Champ Takeru Kobayashi At the prestigious annual Nathan's Hot Dog eating championship in 2001, a skinny, unheralded 23-year-old Japanese contestant named Takeru Kobayashi blew away the field by consuming 50 hot dogs (and buns!) in 12 minutes to double the previous world record. Organizers were so unprepared for Kobayashi's spectacular display of gluttony that they had to resort to hand-written signage to keep track of his astonishing total of devoured dogs. To prove it was no fluke, Kobayashi won the next five Fourth of July Coney Island classics too--with totals of 50, 50.5, 44.5, 53.5 and 53.75 hot dogs respectively. In 2007, despite downing a personal best 63 hot dogs, Kobayashi was upset by American upstart Joey Chestnut. Chestnut also get the better of Kobayashi in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, Kobayashi ran afoul of event organizers when he refused to sign an exclusive contract with Major League Eating, the organization that runs the Coney Island event. Kobayashi was actually arrested as an intruder at the 2010 event when he climbed onstage to congratulate Chestnut on another victory. Kobayashi, nicknamed "The Tsunami" has set several world records in other eating disciplines, such as bratwurst, hamburgers, lobster rolls, and rice balls.
