It is still the most controversial moment in the history of sports--although most Americans have never seen it! England and West Germany are tied 2-2 in extra time in the 1966 World Cup final. Does Geoff Hurst's shot cross the goal line? The officials said it did--and England wins its only World Cup.

Great tribute video to Lou Gehrig, my favorite ballplayer of all time. It begins with real footage of his famous farewell speech and cuts to action shots.

Sending this one out to SWEETS50. "Ride Captain Ride" is a song recorded by the American rock band Blues Image. The song was co-written by the band's singer-guitarist Mike Pinera and keyboardist Frank "Skip" Konte. It was included on the group's 1970 album, Open. Released as a slightly shortened single in the spring of 1970, it shot up the charts, eventually reaching #4, making it Blues Image's first (and only) chart hit. The tasty clean guitar fills and main solo were performed by Kent Henry. Mike Pinera plays the rocking guitar solo at the end of the song.

This is a re-creation of the execution of Leon Czolgosz. Czolgosz was a self-styled anarchist who shot president William McKinley at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York on September 6, 1901. McKinley, struck twice at point-blank range, died of his wounds eight days later. There was swift justice in those days: Czolgosz's trial took place on September 23. It lasted a little more than eight hours. Czolgosz was convicted of murder and sentenced to die in the electric chair in Auburn, New York on October 29. Thomas Edison's company filmed this re-creation of the execution based on the testimony of witnesses.

This is a tribute video to Bobby Hull--the hockey player with the huge slapshot and equally huge heart. The tremendously popular Hull is famous for never refusing to sign an autograph.

On June 16, 1959, George Reeves was found shot to death at his home in Hollywood CA. It's been 49 years and to this day, there is still controversy over whether he killed himself or was murdered.

Here's some interesting trivia about him I thought I'd share today in the Comments Section:

A recent tradition at Sports Illustrated has been an annual 'where are they now' issue. In 2007, SI caught up with the Hanson brothers. The threesome gooned their way to hockey immortality in the hilarious 1977 movie Slap Shot starring Paul Newman.
