Who Shot JR Who shot J.R.? was a mass media-manufactured open question in 1980. In the CBS television series Dallas, the character of J.R. Ewing, played by Larry Hagman, was shot by an unknown assailant in the final scene of its 1979-1980 season, which aired on March 21, 1980 and was entitled A House Divided. Viewers had to wait all summer, and most of the fall due to a Hollywood actors' strike, to learn whether J.R. would survive, and which of his many enemies was responsible. Security was tightened at the Lorimar studios where Dallas was filmed. During the summer of 1980, the question "Who shot J.R.?" was asked in everyday conversations across America and worldwide. T-shirts printed with such references as "Who Shot J.R.?" and "I Shot J.R.!" became common over the summer. Betting parlors worldwide took in massive amounts of money. People were placing bets as to which one of the 10 or so principal characters had actually pulled the trigger that shot J.R. A session of the Turkish parliament was suspended to allow legislators a chance to get home in time to view the Dallas episode. Ultimately, the person who pulled the trigger was revealed to be the character of Kristin Shepard (played by Mary Crosby) in the "Who Done It?" episode which aired on November 21, 1980. Kristin was J.R.'s scheming sister-in-law and mistress, who shot him in a fit of anger.

Ruth Etting This Photo of Ruth Etting was taken by Alfred Cheney Johnston, the official photographer of the Ziegfeld Follies and was taken in 1923. Ruth Etting (November 23, 1896 – September 24, 1978) was an American singing star of the 1930s, who had over sixty hit recordings . . . as well as a quite colorful life: In 1937 she fell in love with her pianist, Myrl Alderman, who was consequently shot by her husband, Moe Snyder — but survived. Snyder was jailed for the assault, and Etting divorced him on November 30, 1937. She married Alderman in December 1938, but the scandal effectively ended her career. . . today, she would just be MORE famous . .

Forrest Gump and Bubba i liked when Lieutenant Dan Taylor (Gary Sinise) told Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue (Mykelti Williamson), "you better tuck that lip in," as a joke so he wouldn't get shot. . .

Another Glamour Shot Naomi yes, i'm on a kick! i just love the glamour shots of (esp) the 40's and 50's . . . here is Dorothy Malone. I was wondering what i had seen her in . . yes, she won an Oscar for WRITTEN ON THE WIND in 1956 which also starred Lauren Bacall, Rock Hudson and Robert Stack. But, i remember her as Constance MacKenzie on the ABC primetime serial PEYTON PLACE, on which she starred from 1964 through 1968.

Elizabeth Montgomery Bewitching Elizabeth Montgomery was the daughter of silver-screen actor Robert Montgomery, and got her start on his TV show ROBERT MONTGOMERY PRESENTS. After marrying second husband Gig Young in 1956, Montgomery shied away from films but made numerous appearances on popular TV shows. Upon their 1963 divorce, Montgomery returned to making films, but third husband William Asher cast her as "Samantha" on the 1964-72 ABC-TV series BEWITCHED. If you look fast, you can see her in a cameo role in the 1965 beach party flick HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI, at the end of the film. After ending BEWITCHED, Asher and Montgomery divorced; she then went on to make many TV movies and married her sometime costar, Robert Foxworth. Sadly, Montgomery passed away at the age of 62 in 1995...this early glamour shot of "Sam" blows me away . . not the way i am used to seeing her!

Family Ties Looking back 25 Years Family Ties ran for 8 years and starred Michael J. Fox as Alex P. Keaton, the conservative, business-oriented son of liberal parents Elyse and Steven (Meredith Baxter-Birney and Michael Gross). Elyse was a successful architect, while Steven ran a public television station. They lived in suburban Columbus, Ohio with their children: Alex (Michael J Fox, Mallory (Justine Bateman) and Jennifer (Tina Yothers). Another child, Andrew (Brian Bonsall), was added later. The majority of the show's humor was derived from the tension between Alex's conservative, Republican mindset, Mallory's uninformed consumerism, and their parents' attitudes as liberal Democrats, who grew up as hippie flower children in the 1960s. This show gave Michael J Fox his shot at superstardom, and aren't we all glad it did! This show began two spinoffs, Day by Day, which lasted two seasons, and The Art of Being Nick, which was produced as a pilot but never picked up as a series.
