The Flashing Blade The Flashing Blade (Le Chevalier Tempête) is a French television serial made in the late 1960s, which was broadcast in the UK on BBC children's television during the 1960s, with several re-runs in the early 1970s. Dubbed from French into English, the action was set in 17th century France, during a period of war between France and Spain. The dubbing was not exactly brilliant, so in the 1980s John Culshaw redubbed a comedy version (which is the one I remember best). In the '60s and '70s the BBC had a habit of buying childrens programmes from European countries which were then very badly dubbed into English - often to hilarious effect.

Another Glamour Shot Naomi yes, i'm on a kick! i just love the glamour shots of (esp) the 40's and 50's . . . here is Dorothy Malone. I was wondering what i had seen her in . . yes, she won an Oscar for WRITTEN ON THE WIND in 1956 which also starred Lauren Bacall, Rock Hudson and Robert Stack. But, i remember her as Constance MacKenzie on the ABC primetime serial PEYTON PLACE, on which she starred from 1964 through 1968.

Oh My Erica Susan Lucci is best known for playing the larger-than-life diva Erica Kane on the ABC television soap opera ALL MY CHILDREN, on which she has appeared since the show's inception on January 5, 1970. She was nominated for the "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy" for her work on ALL MY CHILDREN almost every year since 1978. When Lucci didn't win the award after several consecutive nominations, her image in the media began to be lampooned, as she became notoriously synonymous with never winning an Emmy. NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE exploited this by asking her to host an episode (unusual for a daytime serial actor), where her monologue parodied the cast, crew, and even stagehands carrying Emmys of their own in her presence...

Many of them were originally part of The Dead End Kids and The Little Tough Guys', and several of them later became members of The Bowery Boys.

Douglas MacArthur Life Magazine The cover of the January 10, 1964 issue of Life magazine featured retired general Douglas MacArthur whose memoirs were about to be serialized in that publication. (MacArthur died later that same year.) I posted this for two reasons: I've always found MacArthur to be a fascinating character and January 10, 1964 was the day I was born!

The Beast of Chicago - 19th Century Serial Killer Outwardly mild H.H. Holmes was actually a brutal and ruthless nineteenth-century serial killer who rightfully earned the moniker 'The Beast of Chicago.' From 1888 to 1894 Holmes killed a minimum of 27 victims and perhaps more than 200. In 1886 Holmes began working at a drugstore at the corner of South Wallace and West 63rd Street in Chicago. He eventually became the proprietor after the former owner mysteriously disappeared. The drugstore did quite well, and Holmes — who became known as Dr. Holmes — used the profits to build himself a three-story tall, city-block long, home across the street. It was Holmes' 'murder castle.'--equipped with acid vats, trap doors, secret entrances, and gas chambers. Holmes lured people to the castle, killed them, and sold their skeletons to medical professionals. He was eventually hanged, but not before being convicted of 27 murders, and suspected of at least 173 more. Erik Larson’s award-winning 2003 book, The Devil in the White City, told Holmes’ twisted tale so well that Leonardo DiCaprio purchased the rights to the film; he’s expected to play Holmes.
