Mr. Machine by Ideal Toy Corporation 1962 An Ideal Classic that was so popular that Ideal adopted Mr. Machine as their official logo! This toy was designed by Marvin Glass a freelance toy designer and he fashioned Mr. Machine after a henpecked husband. He squawks as he walks. You could take Mr. Machine apart and even though they say it was desinged for a 5 year to do, many a Mr. Machine laid in pieces only to be tossed out by parents who couldn't figure out how to put him back together either. I repair and take apart old toys to clean them and I had one heck of a some fun putting him back together-NOT! LOL. There were two variations of Mr. Machine that came out in the 70s and one in the 80s, but nothing compares to the original Mr. Machine!!!! His orginal box is shown too!

Beaver Cleaver Haircut One of the most memorable early episodes of Leave It To Beaver was The Haircut. Ward Cleaver lectures Beaver after he loses his lunch money three days in a row. Beaver then proceeds to lose his haircut money. Fearing another stern lecture from Dad, Beaver decides to cut his own hair. Sympathetic brother Wally tries to repair the damage--with predictable results.

Charlie Chaplin Glass Repair Racket Charlie Chaplin's first of several 'masterpiece' films was The Kid (1921). The plot centers on Charlie caring for an abandoned baby boy. In this scene, Charlie and the boy (played by Jackie Coogan) team up to earn a living in the glazier business.

NHL Goalie Takes Puck in the Face - 1959 I posted this video in 2012 but I discovered its source was removed--so here it is again. From a 1959 Stanley Cup playoff game, Boston goalie Harry Lumley takes a backhand shot to the face from Toronto's Dick Duff. Lumley lost two teeth and was badly cut on the play. Men were men in 1959, though. The play continued as usual for about 30 seconds before Lumley froze the puck and headed to to Bruins' bench for "repairs." Lumley must have been a sight! Check out the horrified woman seated in the second row near the Boston bench: She covers her eyes!

Andre Agassi and the Wig Andre Agassi burst upon the pro tennis scene in the late 1980s. His rebel style--plus the fact that he was incredibly talented--won him a lot of youthful fans. A big part of his image was his long locks of hair. To the surprise of many, Agassi revealed in Open, his 2009 autobiography, that his famous hair was actually a wig. Agassi started to lose his hair in 1987 at age 17 and began wearing a hairpiece during his matches. (Agassi's rug disintegrated the night before he was to play in the 1990 French Open final versus Andres Gomez. He repaired it with bobby pins, but was so worried about it coming apart that he lost the match--one he probably should have won.) In 1995, his fiancee Brooke Shields convinced him to go with the sheared look he wore until he retired in 2006 and continues to have to this day.
