Confidential Magazine i remember my best girlfriend's grandmother laying on the couch reading Confidential Mmagazine and smoking Pall Mall cigaretes. we were too young at the time to know what the magazine was about, but knew it was bad (not compared to what's out there today) as it came in a brown envelope delivered to her gram's house.

Burma Shave Signs Do you remember the rhymes of the Burma-Shave signs from long ago? I finally did lol!! We would look forward to reading the little rhymes, posted on consecutive posts along America's highways. I know Mom and Dad enjoyed them. One would announce, "I think I see some Burma-Shave signs!" Then for a few moments, a truce in the war of which kid was taking up more than his allotted space on the back seat of the family Plymouth. The signs were addicting; like someone once said, "No one could read just one." We had to read the entire verse, and we knew that the final sign would read, "Burma-Shave". 1980s Solid State Hard Drive A 100 Gigabyte Solid state storage device from the 1980's, it works using green and red lasers to store and read the data. As explained in the video, the problem they had is that in the process of reading the information it also destroys the information. They get around this problem by using another laser to rewrite every bit.

Traci Lords Workout Video You can't make this stuff up, folks. Former adult film star Traci Lords made this cheesy workout video sometime in the late eighties. The script Traci is reading sounds like it was written by Dr. Seuss.

The Twilight Zone In my opinion, one of the top series of this genre ever produced for television, the original TZ aired from 1959 to 1964. Rod Serling invited viewers to submit a script. He was flooded with over 14,000, and actually got around to reading 500 of them, but only two were any good, and he couldn't use them because they didn't fit with the format of the show. CBS originally wanted Orson Welles as the narrator/host, but the producers felt that he asked for too much money. I just can't imagine anyone but Rod Serling narrating this series, it was his baby from the start. He made up the phrase 'Fifth Dimension' to use in one season's opening narration, stating that he wanted to go one beyond the four known dimensions. A reporter once asked him what the fourth dimension was, (given the first three are length, width, and height). Serling supposedly answered, 'I don't know. Aren't there four?' Hey, if he thought so, that would have been good enough for me!

Little House on the Prairie First Christmas This was my absolute favorite show of all time. Growing up reading the books and watching this each week was a real treat. This really shows the true meaning of Christmas. Early Happy Holidays to all on YRT.

Whats My Line Esoterica Regulars on this website know that I love this old show. (My 300-plus WML posts attest to this!) The original CBS version of What's My Line aired Sunday nights at 10:30 from February 2, 1950 to September 3, 1967. I was just three years old when it went off the air so I never saw WML during its glory days (although I frequently watched the syndicated 1968-75 version). To make up for what I missed, I've been reading everything I can about this great slice of Americana. In the comment section below, I'll be listing some esoteric facts--trivia, if you like--about this supremely classy game show. By the way, this is a publicity photo of the WML gang from 1955.

Rock n Rollen Rollen Frederick Stewart, also known as Rock 'n' Rollen and Rainbow Man, was a fixture in American sports culture for about a decade. He became famous for wearing a rainbow-colored afro-style wig and, later, for holding up signs reading "John 3:16" at sporting events around the United States and overseas in the 1970s and 1980s. Stewart, a born-again Christian, was determined to "get the message out" via television. He figured televised sporting events provided the best opportunities. Stewart would strategically position himself for key shots of plays or athletes. Stewart's first major appearance was at the 1977 NBA Finals where he seemed to constantly be on camera. By the time of the 1979 MLB All-Star Game, broadcasters were actively trying to avoid showing him. Undaunted, Stewart appeared behind NFL goalposts, near Olympic medal stands, and even at the Augusta National Golf Club. At the 1982 Indianapolis 500, he was behind the pits of race winner Gordon Johncock. Stewart's fame led to a Budweiser beer commercial and a Saturday Night Live parody sketch. Stewart was briefly jailed by Moscow police at the 1980 Summer Olympics for wearing a red, white, and blue afro wig. By the mid-1980s Stewart's began exhibiting irrational behavior. In the late 1980s, he began a string of stink bomb attacks. His targets included the Orange County Register, the Trinity Broadcasting Network, and a Christian bookstore. The stated intent of an attempted attack at the American Music Awards was to show the public that "God thinks this stinks." Stewart is currently serving three consecutive life sentences for a orchestrating a hostage-taking and attempted kidnapping at a California hotel in 1992. Reportedly, Stewart believed that the Rapture was due to arrive in six days. During the standoff, he threatened to shoot at airplanes taking off from nearby Los Angeles International Airport and covered his hotel room windows with "John 3:16" placards. His next parole hearing is in 2017.
