Jeanne Crain The Girl Next Door Jeanne Crain was born in Barstow, California on May 25, 1925. Willie and Joe Perhaps some of you may remember "Willie and Joe." The two World War II infantry grunts created by Bill Mauldin. His famous infantrymen cartoons were featured in "Stars and Stripes," the American soldier's newspaper. The cartoons would depict life as the average American soldier would live it during wartime. Some were comical, others brought home the ugliness and tragedies of war. He didn't get along very well with most officers because would poke fun at them in his cartoons. This would irritate the younger officers and some older ones alike. Gen. George Patton wanted him to stop drawing his cartoons but apparently the morale of the American soldier and the popularity of the cartoons and the good effect that "Willie and Joe" had on it won out even over the General's wishes. These two cartoons came from the first collection of his work compiled in a book alled, "Up Front," which was a best-seller. At age 23 he won the Pulitzer Prize. That was in 1945. He was assigned to the 45th infantry division, and was wounded by a shell fragment in Anzio for which he receive the Purple Heart. He also made the cover of Time Magazine in 1958. Bill passed away in 2003 at the age of 81. Bill Mauldin was a great American!

Price Is Right cheater This is just so wrong. A dim-witted Price Is Right contestant exposes the correct price in Flip-Flop. Amazingly, not only isn't he immediately disqualified, Bob Barker awards him the prize! Great lesson there, huh?

I Remember Elie Weisel Dedicated to another famous Holocaust survivor, Nazi hunter and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Elie Wiesel was born at Sighet, Maramures county, Romania On September 30, 1928. He is the author of over 40 books, the best known of which is Night, a memoir that describes his experiences during the Holocaust and his imprisonment in several concentration camps. Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. The Norwegian Nobel Committee called him a "messenger to mankind," noting that through his struggle to come to terms with "his own personal experience of total humiliation and of the utter contempt for humanity shown in Hitler's death camps," as well as his "practical work in the cause of peace," Wiesel has delivered a powerful message "of peace, atonement and human dignity" to humanity. On November 30, 2006 Wiesel received an honorary knighthood in London, England in recognition of his work toward raising Holocaust education in the United Kingdom. Music "Hatikvah", (Israeli National Anthem) performed by Barbra Streisand. I'm thankful to be able to share this with you.

10000 Dollar Pyramid One of my favorite game shows was Dick Clark's Pyramid. Over the years the prize money gradually increased. This is the start of a very early episode from 1973 when the big prize was a mere $10,000. The celebrities are June Lockhart and Rob (Meathead) Reiner.

Ann Sheridan i love the way Ann Sheridan was "introduced" to Hollywood . . . .she had been a college student when her sister sent a photograph of her to Paramount Pictures. She subsequently entered and won a beauty contest, with part of her prize being a bit part in a Paramount film. She abandoned college to pursue a career in Hollywood...
