Budgie Budgie in 1971 along came one of my favorite tv series... Budgie. it was written by Keith Waterhouse,an starred Adam Faith as Ronald 'Budgie' Bird - a chirpy cocky cockney, just out of prison, and scraping a living on the edge of the law. Budgie was an eternal failure and every scam, and every attempt to make his fortune landed him further and further into trouble, either with the police, or with his untrustworthy sometime boss, the cynical Charlie Endell, a respectable club owner on the surface, and underworld villain below it.

Fargo In 1987, Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy), a car salesman from Minneapolis, Minnesota with financial troubles, hatches a plan to end his financial difficulties. Through his mechanic, a former criminal named Shep Proudfoot, he enlists the service of two hit men, Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare) and Carl Showalter (Steve Buscemi), at a bar in Fargo, North Dakota to kidnap his wife, Jean, who will be returned unharmed for a payment of $80,000. Jerry's secret plan is to tell his wealthy but antagonistic father-in-law, Wade, that the ransom is $1,000,000 intending to use the large difference to settle unspecified debts he has accrued and to invest in a business venture involving a parking lot...another black comedy that i thought was terrific! I also got a kick out of how much and how often the local police chief, heavily pregnant Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand)and her sweet husband, Norm, ate!!

Police Woman 1974 to1978 Another police drama of the 70's, starring Angie Dickinson and Earl Holliman. How many of you remember Earl Holliman as Sundance in the CBS western series Hotel DeParee in the very early 60's.

Police Squad! Only six episodes made and first broadcast in 1982 (1983 in the UK). A number of running gags, including the special guest star every week being killed off during the introduction. Forerunner to the Naked Gun series of films.

The National Police Gazette my grandmother loved all the old detective magazines . . i didn't realize at the time how risque they were! Here's a little history: "By far the most famous publication in the United States by this name was officially The National Police Gazette, although commonly referred to as simply the Police Gazette. It was founded in 1845 by George Wilkes, a journalist and sometime transcontinental railroad booster. The editor for most of the 19th century was Richard K. Fox, an immigrant from Ireland. Ostensibly devoted to matters of interest to the police, it was more often a tabloid-like publication, with lurid coverage of murders, Wild West outlaws, and sport."

Telly Savalas Who Loves Ya Baby Beginning in 1973 Telly Savalas used his considerable charisma to breathe a little life into this look at a New York detective. Helped by some good location filming in the Big Apple and fairly realistic plots, not to mention that "New York" attitude, Kojak will always stand as an above average 70's cop show.
