Martha Hyer (born August 10, 1924 in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American actress.
Her first movie role was at age eleven when she appeared in Thunder Mountain. After completing her education, she next appeared in The Locket in 1946. She had roles in Sabrina (1954), The Delicate Delinquent in 1956 (Jerry Lewis' first film without Dean Martin), Houseboat (1958), First Men in the Moon (1964), and The Sons of Katie Elder (1965), among many others. She costarred with Keenan Wynn in Bikini Beach (1964), one of the Beach Party movies with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. She played the part of Hannah Haley in Incident West of Lano on Rawhide.
Her most significant role was in Some Came Running in 1958, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her last film was Day of the Wolves in 1973.
A very pretty platinum blonde, Hyer married producer Hal B. Wallis in 1966, and the couple remained together until his death in 1986. Her autobiography, Finding My Way: A Hollywood Memoir, was published in 1990...

This is from the The Great Dictator (1940) starring Charlie Chaplin. In this film Chaplin played two roles: One was Adenoid Hynkel, the dictator of Tomania (an obvious parody of Adolf Hitler); the other was a Jewish barber who looked like Hynkel. In this scene the barber takes the place of Hynkel and, instead of making the expected declaration of war, uses the podium to plea for a better world. It's quite a moving speech...

Sending this one out to SWEETS50. "Ride Captain Ride" is a song recorded by the American rock band Blues Image. The song was co-written by the band's singer-guitarist Mike Pinera and keyboardist Frank "Skip" Konte. It was included on the group's 1970 album, Open. Released as a slightly shortened single in the spring of 1970, it shot up the charts, eventually reaching #4, making it Blues Image's first (and only) chart hit. The tasty clean guitar fills and main solo were performed by Kent Henry. Mike Pinera plays the rocking guitar solo at the end of the song.

This is one from my childhood days! In Canada there was a terrific kids' show in the early 1970s called The Hilarious House of Frightenstein that was an after-school staple. Locally produced by CHCH-TV in Hamilton, Ontario, it starred the versatile Billy Van in numerous roles. In this educational bit, Van plays Dr. Pet Vet, the kindly veterinarian who always brought a potential pet to Igor. As always, the mean Sloth wouldn't allow Igor to have any pet!

Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll whose distinctive "shave and a haircut, two bits" rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of other musicians, died Monday after months of ill health. He was 79.
Diddley died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla., spokeswoman Susan Clary said. He had suffered a heart attack in August, three months after suffering a stroke while touring in Iowa. Doctors said the stroke affected his ability to speak, and he had returned to Florida to continue rehabilitation.
The legendary singer and performer, known for his homemade square guitar, dark glasses and black hat, was an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, and received a lifetime achievement award in 1999 at the Grammy Awards. In recent years he also played for the elder President Bush and President Clinton.
Diddley appreciated the honors he received, "but it didn't put no figures in my checkbook."

This is a cast photo from the first season of The Partridge Family (1970-71). The actor in the bottom left corner is Jeremy Gelbwaks, who played Chris Partridge in only that first season. (He was apparently hyperactive and uncontrollable. Years later Danny Bonaduce referred to Gelbwaks as 'psychotic.' Brian Forster replaced Gelbwaks in the second season.) Susan Dey's pretty face is quite appealing.
