Ruth Etting This Photo of Ruth Etting was taken by Alfred Cheney Johnston, the official photographer of the Ziegfeld Follies and was taken in 1923. Ruth Etting (November 23, 1896 Ė September 24, 1978) was an American singing star of the 1930s, who had over sixty hit recordings . . . as well as a quite colorful life: In 1937 she fell in love with her pianist, Myrl Alderman, who was consequently shot by her husband, Moe Snyder ó but survived. Snyder was jailed for the assault, and Etting divorced him on November 30, 1937. She married Alderman in December 1938, but the scandal effectively ended her career. . . today, she would just be MORE famous . .

Undercover Putin Met President Reagan A picture has emerged apparently showing Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in his former days as a KGB officer. The 20-year old photo depicts two world leaders - US President Ronald Reagan and the Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev - in Moscow. But, according to the man who took the photo, it also captures Mr Putin disguised as a tourist. Pete Souza, now President Obama's official photographer, captured the moment when he worked for President Reagan during the political thaw that soon ended the Cold War. Mr Reagan took a stroll around Red Square accompanied by the Russian leader, who then introduced him to a group of tourists. In an interview, Mr Souza recounted being surprised at the "pointed" questions these supposed tourists asked the US leader.

VJ Day Smoochers This famous photo was taken by Life Magazine photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt during the impromptu VJ Day celebrations in New York City's Times Square. For years no one knew who the two anonymous smoochers were. In 1980 Edith Shain came forward, claiming to be the nurse. When the 50th anniversary approached, Carl Muscarello declared himself to be the sailor. The two kissers got together once again in 1995 to recreate their famous pose on Tom Snyder's television program.

Little Rock desegregation 1957 This is another iconic image of the 50ís segregation period. Elizabeth Eckford is one of the African American students known as the Little Rock Nine. On September 4, 1957, she and eight other African American students attempted to enter Little Rock Central High School, which had previously only accepted white students. They were stopped at the door by Arkansas National Guard troops called up by Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus. They tried again without success to attend Central High on September 23, 1957. The next day, September 24, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent U.S. Army troops to accompany the Little Rock Nine to school for protection. The thing isÖ she is not the subject of the photograph. Will Counts, the photographer shot Hazel Massery, the white girl shouting in front of the man. 40 years later she apologized to Elisabeth...

Evelyn Nesbit Scandal 1906 Evelyn Nesbit was a beautiful teenage model at the turn of the twentieth century. She supported herself and her widowed mother by posing for various artists and photographers. Her good looks won her a job as a Broadway chorus girl. This photo of her was taken in 1901 when Evelyn was 16. That same year she caught the eye of renowned architect and womanizer Stanford White--who was 47. White was married, but he often 'befriended' attractive teenage girls. Because of White's wealth and prestige, Evelyn's mother encouraged the relationship. White often 'entertained' young female friends in his lavish tower apartment at Madison Square Garden (which he designed). In the apartment were numerous strategically positioned mirrors and a red velvet swing. White apparently derived much pleasure watching his nubile young ladies cavort on it. According to Nesbit, White took advantage of her one night in the apartment after getting her to pose for suggestive photos in a yellow silk kimono and plying her with champagne. After deflowering Nesbit, White lost interest in her. Nesbit later became involved with Harry Thaw, the son of a Pittsburgh coal and railroad tycoon. Thaw himself was a possessive, sexual sadist who often beat Evelyn. Nevertheless, the two were married in 1905. Thaw became obsessed with Evelyn's stories about White. On June 25, 1906, Evelyn and Harry had two chance encounters with White. The first was at a cafe. The second was at a theatrical performance at Madison Square Garden's roof theatre. Thaw, who always carried a pistol, fired three shots into White's face at close range, killing him instantly. He is said to have shouted, 'You ruined my wife!' Thaw was tried twice for White's murder. The first trial ended with a deadlocked jury. At the second trial Thaw pled temporary insanity. Thaw's mother encouraged Evelyn to testify that White had raped her and Harry shot White to avenge her honor. Evelyn was supposed to get a quickie divorce and $1 million from the Thaw family. The divorce was granted, but Evelyn never got a penny. She was a minor celebrity for a few years and vanished into obscurity. She died in 1967 at the age of 82. Thaw was institutionalized until 1915 and died in 1947. Late in her life Nesbit claimed that Stanford White was the only man she ever truly loved. The story of the scandal was made into a 1955 movie starring Joan Collins titled The Girl In The Red Velvet Swing.

Featured Member- Steve I was born a poor black boyÖ..I always wanted to use that in a bio! Can anyone tell us what movie that is a quote from and why it is funny? So many of you are clamoring for my bio so you have to give the public what they want! I was born into a military family so we moved around a lot as young kids, fortunately I had four brothers .We were hardly ever indoors playing with our Man From Uncle toy sets, our play guns, trucks and of course our bikes. I love coming across a posting from our members that stir up the memories from childhood like you Iím sure! I remember the theme to Perry Mason as I was just getting settled for bed, or someone posting a movie that just mom and I watched together, or the memories from high school from a song I had forgotten. After high school I entered the U.S. Navy and served onboard the U.S.S. America (CV-66). After four years with the Navy I worked for the cable company as an installer and left being a line technician within 4 years. I then started my own video production company. Iíve also worked and trained as a professional photographer so those two trades kept me busy until the economy tanked. I currently freelance for the local TV news and look to expand this with other stations and I also am starting a new website for brides, Iíll let you know when this launches. I am married to TerryAnn and we have a 14 year old son Alex and a daughter Catie who is 7 going on 17. We also have two cats named Sonny and Cher (of course!). I started YRTwhen I was frustrated with not find much memorabilia on the internet. Iím sure most of the clips on YRT is on YouTube, but you have to know what you are looking for and often times you have to be very specific in your search. So YRT is all the memories growing up under one roof! I love it when a member posts something I would never think of, itís like seeing an old friend again. Speaking of friends, thatís what makes this site so special, making friends with the members around the world!

Billy Ripken Baseball Card Obscenity Fleer's 1989 baseball card of Billy Ripken of the Baltimore Orioles had an unusual feature: an obscenity on the handle of his bat. For years Ripken blamed a playful teammate for scribbling the naughty message on his bat just before the photo was taken. In 2009 Ripken fessed up, saying he had written the message on his batting practice bat to distinguish it from his game bats. He had just finished taking BP at Fenway Park when the Fleer photographer snapped this photo. When this error became public knowledge, Fleer reissued Ripken's card several different times, with the offending message blacked out or obscured in a different manner. Predictably, the original 'error card' is much in demand by collectors.

Featured Member- Mizzouhillbilly aka Scott Hello my YRT friends. Yíall know me as Mizzouhillbilly, but my friends call me Scott. As you can tell from my tag Iím from the great state of Missouri. I was raised in a small town not far from my familyís cattle farm. My father worked for the USGS (grandfather wanted his kids to go to college and not work the farm) and moved us to the west coast in 1982 (I was 16 at the time). I have been in California since. I married my high school sweetheart in í85 and she has blessed me with 4 beautiful kids. I am very family oriented, so we are a very close knit family. So, my life has been spent doing as much as possible with my family. I was a girl scout (YES! A girl scout) for many years as my wife was the troop leader. At the same time I coached my two oldest from t-ball to softball until they entered high school. I am also a proud cheer dad running all over the country to many cheer competitions. The rest of my time is spent getting a few hours of sleep and working a government job. Oh yeah, I do get to spend some time with my lovely wife. Things are starting to slow down as my kids are getting older allowing more time for myself. My oldest is 21 and about to graduate from UC Berkeley and plans on continuing her education at Cambridge next year. My second is 19 and a sophomore at a local state college and an avid photographer. My third is 17 and is about to graduate high school. She is a competitive cheerleader (like those you see on ESPN not high school) and is headed to Mizzou next year. Then my son is 14 and about to enter high school. He is an avid chef and is planning on opening his own pastry shop after getting his business degree (his words not dads). Once theyíre all out of the house Iím headed back to the Ozarks to live my life sitting on the porch in my rocker with a cold one in one hand and my wife in the other. That is my life in a nutshell. I want to thank all my YRT friends for all their posts and support. My kids love seeing all the stuff from my childhood that I always talk about.
