Petticoat Junction had one of the most recognizable TV themes ever. This is the opening from the first season (1963-64). Petticoat Junction enjoyed its best ratings during that first season and was a staple of the CBS lineup. The show suffered greatly after Bea Benaderet died in 1968 and last aired in September 1970. The black-and-white shows from the first two seasons were never put into syndication. I would have stayed at the Shady Rest Hotel just for the scenery. The scenery's names were Billie Jo, Bobby Jo and Betty Jo.

Here is the best cast of the series that was broadcast in 1977. Tony Curtis' daughter, Jamie was in this series for the first season. Yes, that is Gomez Addams, John Astin.
The second season though sunk with cast changes.

Here is a series that was shown on ABC from 1977 to 1979. Tony Curtis' daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis played a nurse on the shows first year. Her father, Tony Curtis, he was in the motion picture version of this series.
In the second season of this series, it should be noted that entire cast was completely diffrent.
Missing in the second year was also John Astin. An actor who was known on television as Gomez from the black and white series 'The Addams Family' among a few others. His son would later be featured in 'The Lord Of The Rings' movie trilogy.
In the end, the new cast change was a mistake for the program. The series was soon taken off the air. *E*

A submarine newly commissioned is damaged in the opening days of WW II. A captain (Cary Grant), looking for a command, insists he can get it to a dockyard and command it. Going slowly to this site, they find a stranded group of Army nurses and must take them aboard. How bad can it get? Trying to get a primer coat on the sub, they have to mix white and red in order to have enough. When forced to flee the dock during an air attack, they find themselves with the world's only Pink submarine, and 5 women yet! Here's a funny scene with Tony Curtis stealing a pig, which he names Seaman Hornsby, and then trying to hide it in the Officer's Head.

This must be from 1968 or 1969: The cast of Petticoat Junction grace the cover of TV Guide. Note that June Lockhart is shown. Her character, Dr. Janet Craig, replaced Bea Benaderet's character, Kate Bradley, after Benaderet died in October 1968. Good rule of thumb: If the opening credits to Petticoat Junction come on and June Lockhart walks onto the porch of the Shady Rest, change the channel.

Steve wanted to know what the three Bradley girls from Petticoat Junction looked like today. Here's a photo of Meredith MacRae, Linda Henning and Lori Saunders. I'd date this photo around 1997. MacRae, the third actress to play Billie Jo Bradley, died of brain cancer in 2000. The first Billie Jo (Jeannine Riley) was axed from the show after she posed for Playboy. The second Billie Jo (Gunilla Hutton) was allegedly Nat King Cole's mistress. She was later a regular on Hee Haw. Lori Saunders was the second actress to portray Bobbie Jo. The first was Pat Woodell. I don't know why that cast change was made.
