The Cowsills Live HAIR October 17, 1967, the opening of the Broadway musical HAIR. Hair was a product of the hippy counter-culture and sexual revolution of the 1960s, and several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. The title song was also a hit single for The Cowsills in 1969, and here it is!

You Were On My Mind by We Five We Five's only other chart hit aside from "You Were On My Mind" was "Let's Get Together," which reached #31 on the Billboard Hot 100. I didn't have to look up the release date of this song, it was 1965, the year I graduated High School and had a dream of joining the Peace Corps. Never happened. Of course you recognize Fred Astaire, who hosted Hollywood Palace that night. And the clothes and faces of that group, so fresh and clean, definitely not the grunge look that took over later on!

Elvis sings Peace in the Valley Elvis Presley appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show three times. The final time was January 6, 1957. This was the infamous show in which Elvis was only shown from the waist up so his famous and controversial gyrations would not offend anyone. The last song he performed was a spiritual number, Peace In The Valley. After the song is over Ed Sullivan bluntly tells the critics what he thinks of Elvis. (Elvis was always grateful for Ed's support.)

Cam Ranh Bay Vietnam Bob Hope Christmas Show 1968 Bob Hope began entertaining troops in May of 1941, when Bob, with a group of performers, went to March Field, California, to do a radio show for airmen stationed there. He would continue that tradition through peacetime and wartime for another 60 years. On December 22, 1968, Bob's "Operation Holly" performed at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. This video records that event. The original film was silent, so the audio from his performance at Long Binh Army Depot that same Christmas has been dubbed onto the video.

Dempsey And Makepeace A hugely popular 80's TV show in the UK. New York cop Lt. James Dempsey has to flee the US. after discovering high level corruption in his force, so under the banner of an exchange programme ends up in the UK. Paired off with the upper class Det. Sgt. Harriet Makepeace the two mismatched cops together solve some weird and wonderful crimes. It did try a little too hard at times to look like some US. imports of the time but was great fun none the less.
