LONG AND WINDING ROAD McCartney wrote this song at his farm in Scotland, and was inspired by the growing tension between himself, Lennon, Starr, and Harrison. McCartney said later: 'I just sat down at my piano in Scotland, started playing and came up with that song, imagining it was going to be done by someone like Ray Charles. I have always found inspiration in the calm beauty of Scotland and again it proved the place where I found inspiration.' It became The Beatles' last #1 song in the United States on June 13th, 1970, and was their last real single.

Fool On The Hill 1990 Getback Concert Tommy7's Beatles clips got me to thinking about one of my favorite songs, Paul's 'Fool on the Hill', that was recorded in 1967. This clip was taken from the 1990 'Getback' Concert. It's funny how there was always talk about exactly what some of these songs meant. With this song, Paul stated that he 'was writing about someone like Maharishi' - a person who is called a fool by many but is in fact wise. In Alistair Taylor's book, 'Yesterday', Taylor wrote about a mysterious incident involving a man who inexplicably appeared near him and Paul during a walk on Primrose Hill, and then disappeared again, soon after they had conversed about the existence of God. This allegedly prompted the writing of the song.

Leopold and Loeb Murder Case Revisited Dr. Paul G. Clemens, a history professor at Rutgers University, discusses the famous 1924 Leopold and Loeb murder case. Sadly, the victim (14-year-old Bobby Franks) doesn't even merit a mention by the prof.

Rainy Days and Mondays It's been raining here for two days!!! It's wonderful, we've been in a drought for so long. But as I look out the window it's so dreary and cold as well, it made me think back to this song by Karen Carpenter. Wasn't she great? Did you know that Paul Williams was the co-composer of this song? No wonder it's so pretty.
