Biograph Girl Florence Lawrence Canadian born Florence Lawrence was America's first big movie star--but no one knew her name. During the first decade of the twentieth century, movie companies did not publicize their actors' names in order to keep their salaries down. Florence Lawrence made dozens of films for D.W. Griffith's Biograph Company and became the studio's most noteworthy star. Nevertheless she remained anonymous. Known to her fans only as 'the Biograph girl,' she was earning just $25 per week. When she left Biograph in 1910 to join the newly formed IMP company, her new studio started a false rumor that she had been killed in a streetcar accident in St. Louis. It then announced that 'the Biograph girl' was Florence Lawrence. She was alive and well and about to star in a new film for IMP. This was likely the first Hollywood publicity stunt. Lawrence appeared in more than 300 films, but her popularity waned almost as quickly as it had grown. By the 1920s she had only uncredited bit roles and was earning $75 per week. The Great Depression ruined her finanacially and she endured three unhappy marriages. In December 1938, a week before 53rd birthday, Lawrence committed suicide by ingesting ant paste.

Fishermans Friend Couldn't find the UK. ad but this one from our Antipodean friends will do. This is a cough come nasal passage clearer lozenge which when you first try them they'll fair draw your cheeks in. Around for years the tag line every school boy over here used, was, 'would you suck a fisherman's friend'? LOL!

Featured Member - Ray- Original YouTube Introductory Video March 2007 To introduce myself to this site...let me start with my original Introductory Video, produced for YouTube, from March of 2007. This pretty much describes me and my involvement in home video. But collecting videos is only one of my facets...I have been collecting pop songs on audiotape since the 1960s (I have a reel-to-reel collection that is in essence a history of Cleveland radio during the 1960s), I have a newspaper collection that I'm trying to sell, and have about 750 45's that I'm still trying to figure out what to do with! I also learned how to become somewhat computer-savvy....I have published two websites (one devoted to my precious Betamax video format, it's at betainfoguide.net, the other devoted to one of the most popular Top 40 AM stations ever to hit Cleveland, WIXY-1260 - that site is at www.wixy1260.com). I am originally from Cleveland but lived in Las Vegas for 4 1/2 wonderful years in the mid-90s, and hope to get back there someday....permanently. Most of my working life has been spent in retail, mainly the restaurant business, although now I'm working at New York Frozen Foods baking bread! I love to meet people with common interests, which is why I'm here; plus I have 7 active channels on YouTube! I married a wonderful Japanese lady in 1980 and we'll soon be celebrating 30 years of married bliss! Take care, and let me hear from you!

Featured Member- Mizzouhillbilly aka Scott Hello my YRT friends. Y’all know me as Mizzouhillbilly, but my friends call me Scott. As you can tell from my tag I’m from the great state of Missouri. I was raised in a small town not far from my family’s cattle farm. My father worked for the USGS (grandfather wanted his kids to go to college and not work the farm) and moved us to the west coast in 1982 (I was 16 at the time). I have been in California since. I married my high school sweetheart in ’85 and she has blessed me with 4 beautiful kids. I am very family oriented, so we are a very close knit family. So, my life has been spent doing as much as possible with my family. I was a girl scout (YES! A girl scout) for many years as my wife was the troop leader. At the same time I coached my two oldest from t-ball to softball until they entered high school. I am also a proud cheer dad running all over the country to many cheer competitions. The rest of my time is spent getting a few hours of sleep and working a government job. Oh yeah, I do get to spend some time with my lovely wife. Things are starting to slow down as my kids are getting older allowing more time for myself. My oldest is 21 and about to graduate from UC Berkeley and plans on continuing her education at Cambridge next year. My second is 19 and a sophomore at a local state college and an avid photographer. My third is 17 and is about to graduate high school. She is a competitive cheerleader (like those you see on ESPN not high school) and is headed to Mizzou next year. Then my son is 14 and about to enter high school. He is an avid chef and is planning on opening his own pastry shop after getting his business degree (his words not dads). Once they’re all out of the house I’m headed back to the Ozarks to live my life sitting on the porch in my rocker with a cold one in one hand and my wife in the other. That is my life in a nutshell. I want to thank all my YRT friends for all their posts and support. My kids love seeing all the stuff from my childhood that I always talk about.

On The Street Where You Live This is one of a half dozen terrific numbers that made My Fair Lady one of the greatest musicals ever. From the 1964 movie version, Jeremy Brett performs On The Street Where You Live. (Okay, somebody named Bill Shirley is actually doing the singing, but it's Jeremy Brett you see.)
