Betty Grable This sensational bathing-suit photo, with her head looking over her right shoulder, became the number-one pin-up girl of the WWII era. It was later included in Life 100 Photos that Changed the World. Grable was best-known for her shapely legs, which were showcased in all of her 20th Century Fox Technicolor musicals and were famously insured by her studio for $1,000,000 per leg at Lloyds of London.

Ann Margret Bye Bye Birdie 1963 The 60's gave birth to some great musicals. Director George Sidney began and ended his film of BYE BYE BIRDIE with a title song (that wasn't in the Broadway show), in order to showcase Ann-Margret. Amazingly, this woman looks almost the same today. I just don't know how they do it.

Yul Brynner in The King and I 1956 Lava's clip from My Fair Lady reminded me of the night in 1977, when I took my mom to see Yul Brynner live in The King and I at the Miami Beach Theatre of the Performing Arts. We were fortunate enough to have great seats a couple of rows behind the orchestra, and had a perfect view of the stage. I'd seen Yul Brynner hundreds of times on the screen, but never in person. He was magnificent! Such a handsome man, and his stage presence just blew me away, my mom was in heaven as well! Mrs Anna Leonowens was played by Constance Towers, who years later played Helena Cassadine in General Hospital. After the play, when the audience was leaving, we ran back to where the stage door was on the side of the building just in time to see him get into his Limousine. As it drove right by us I could see him and I waved like crazy, and he waved back with that wonderful handsome smile! I'll never forget that as long as I live.

South Pacific The Original Performers Ezio Pinza and Mary Martin From a 1954 "General Foods" television special devoted to Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. I remember sitting and watching this with my family as clear as if it were yesterday. These shows of Broadway stars were so popular in the early days of television that this special was broadcast simultaneously on all the networks. Ezio Pinza, Italian-American bass, (born Fortunato (Ezio), Roma 1892 - died of a stroke, Stamford, Connecticut 1957) A big star at the Metropolitan Opera house starting in 1926, he continued his career in films, TV and Broadway after he retired from the Met in 1948. Pinza created the part of Emile de Becque in the original Broadway production of "South Pacific". His performance of "Some Enchanted Evening" on the original Broadway cast album was a big hit, and introduced him to a mass audience. From the time I was 4 yrs old I remember hearing the beautiful sounds of Ezio Pinza coming through my grandmother's old RCA Victrola. Some memories will never fade, no matter how old we get.

The Cowsills Live HAIR October 17, 1967, the opening of the Broadway musical HAIR. Hair was a product of the hippy counter-culture and sexual revolution of the 1960s, and several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. The title song was also a hit single for The Cowsills in 1969, and here it is!

The Original Peter Pan Mary Martin It's 1955, you and your family are all seated around your brand new twelve inch color TV. Mom made snacks, which are sitting on top of TV trays, (all the rage). This is a momentous occasion. Tonight, you will witness a magical event, a live broadcast of Peter Pan, straight from Broadway. It has music, adventure and best of all it's in color thanks to the NBC peacock. The production also starred Cyril Ritchard as Hook, and Sondra Lee as Tiger Lily with Lynn Fontanne.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Here's another wonderful performance by Judy Garland that brings back alot of memories, and some tears as well. It's from the 1944 film, Meet Me in St Louis. It tells the story of four sisters living in St. Louis at the time of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition World's Fair in 1904. Judy met her future husband while making this film, he was the director, Vincent Minnelli. In 2005, Time.com named Meet Me in St Louis as one of the 100 best movies of the last 80 years.
