Henry McCarty (November 23, 1859 – July 14, 1881) was better known as Billy the Kid, but also known by the aliases Henry Antrim and William Harrison Bonney. He was a 19th century American frontier outlaw and gunman who was a participant in the Lincoln County War. He was reputed to have killed 21 men, one for each year of his life. Neil first demonstrated musical aptitude in his second-grade choral class, and when his teacher sent a note home suggesting he take piano lessons, his mother got a job in a department store for six months to pay for a second-hand upright. He took to the instrument immediately. In 1947, he auditioned successfully for a piano scholarship to the prestigious Juilliard School of Music's Preparatory Division for Children. The best-known Billboard Hot 100 hits of his early career were "Oh! Carol", "Calendar Girl", "You Mean Everything to Me", "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen", and "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do". "Oh! Carol" referred to Neil's former girlfriend Carole King. In 2007, Sedaka continues to perform regularly. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in October 2006. Last month, a special concert was presented at the Lincoln Center in New York City, to honor the 50th anniversary of Sedaka's debut in show business. In this clip Neil does a medley of his hits Stairway to Heaven, Hey Little Devil, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen and Calendar Girl.

Before Abraham Lincoln's portrait was featured on American one-cent coins, the design on the coin was the Indian Head. The attractive design was created by James Longacre. Rumor has it that Longacre used his daughter's likeness for the face. They were minted in the millions from 1859 to 1909. Because so many were put into circulation, they are still relatively cheap to acquire from coin dealers.

On November 19, 1863, the National Military Cemetery in Gettyburg, Pennsylvania was officially dedicated. The Battle of Gettysburg lasted three days, from July 1 to 3, 1863. Some 150,000 men engaged in the Civil War's most important engagement--and some 50,000 of them became casualties. Edward Everett, a famed orator, was the keynote speaker at the dedication ceremony five months later. He spoke for two hours. President Abraham Lincoln was invited--almost as an afterthought--to make a few appropriate remarks. He followed Everett and spoke for just two minutes. Lincoln's brief speech remains the most stirring in American history.

Chess was front page news and on the cover of Time Magazine in the summer of 1972 when American Bobby Fischer challenged world champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union. Fischer, 29, had been prominent on the chess scene since 1958 when he won the U.S. championship just before he turned 15. The Soviet Union had dominated international chess for 25 years, but Spassky was bamboozled by Fischer's unpredictable openings. Fischer clinched the 24-game match, held in Reykjavik, Iceland, after 21 games with a record of seven wins, three losses, and eleven draws. Fischer's victory generated tremendous interest in the game in the United States. Known as the 'Fischer Boom,' membership numbers in the U.S. Chess Federation reached their peak in the following two years. The eccentric Fischer never defended his title. He opted to resign as world champion in 1974 when not all of his 64 conditions to defend against Anatoly Karpov were accepted by chess' governing body. Since then Fischer has been a recluse. He did make an appearance in 1992 to play his old rival Spassky in a specially arranged match in Yugoslavia. (This violated UN sanctions against Yugoslavia at the time.) Fischer won the match and proclaimed he was still the legitimate world champion. Despite having Jewish ancestry, Fischer is an anti-Semite and a passionate Holocaust denier. Fischer called a Manila talk-radio station to applaud the 9/11 terrorist attacks in a profanity-filled rant. Fischer now lives in Iceland where he was granted citizenship.

In a career that spans almost four decades his stories never cease to amaze, thrill and touch our hearts. 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', which began filming in June of this year, is scheduled for release on May 22, 2008. Spielberg has also begun plans for an Abraham Lincoln biopic, titled 'Lincoln', which will star Liam Neeson as the 16th US President, and is also scheduled for release in 2008. He's also started working on a space travel movie entitled 'Interstellar'. It will be based on real scientific theories of black holes, worm holes, time travel, and gravity. Steven is also planning a motion capture film trilogy based on The Adventures of Tintin. 'Jurassic Park IV' is also in development, and another of his upcoming projects is a miniseries which he will produce with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, titled 'The Pacific'.

This is almost unbelievable. Patrick Stefan of the Dallas Stars fails to clinch a Stanley Cup playoff game with an empty-net goal that anyone's grandmother ought to be able to score. Worse, his gaffe turns into a tying goal for the Edmonton Oilers. (Dallas did eventually win the game in overtime, however.)
