Carole Landis was born on New Year's Day in 1919 and was primarily know as a B movie actress. Her busiest year ever turned out to be 1942, with roles in six films such as MANILA CALLING, THE POWERS GIRLS, and A GENTLE MAN AT HEART . . On July 5, 1948, Carole committed suicide on an overdose of Seconal in her Brentwood Heights, California home. She was only 29 and had made 49 motion pictures, unfortunately, mostly forgettable ones.

Here is a uniique commercial for its time, David Naughton has himself a guest promoting a drink first introduced in 1885 that tingles America's taste buds. Go ahead and rate this media.
Naughton was known for the television comedy show "Makin' It," and rose the charts in 1979 with the theme song from the series.
He is still a working actor since then, and can be seen often in recent television series.
He is also known for the 1981 lead role he took on in John Landis's "An American Werewolf in London."

The worst sports scandal in American history revolved around the 1919 Chicago White Sox. The White Sox won their second American League pennant in three years and were heavily favored to beat the National League champion Cincinnati Reds in the best-of-nine World Series. But, lo and behold, the Reds won in eight games. Reporters and baseball insiders who watched the games knew something was amiss. White Sox pitchers Eddie Cicotte and Lefty Williams, the team's two aces, combined for all five Chicago losses. Their pitches seemed to lack zip. The White Sox also made uncharacteristic errors in the field and amateurish mental mistakes. It took nearly a year for evidence to surface that the eight of the White Sox had thrown the Series for gamblers. The press dubbed them the 'Black Sox,' and the eight were banned from pro baseball. Among them was the great Shoeless Joe Jackson, whose .356 career batting average is the third best ever. In order to restore the public's faith in Major League Baseball, Judge Kenesaw M. Landis was hired by the 16 team owners to serve as the sport's commissioner. He was given a lifetime contract and extraordinary powers. The White Sox did not play in another World Series until 1959.

Just in case you’ve forgotten, plenty of small boys were grounded for scaring the girls with these American Greetings produced rubber toys in 1985. That's right, the recognized card greeting company was behind all this ball activity. They had the license rights for various Madball merchandise packaged for marketing to lively children.
They quickly became a fad as boys aquired numerous Madballs in the nationwide stores. A total of just under twenty were released featuring the outlandish forming characters. None were alike when it came to their color and name.
Since their fun intoduction, there has been a much larger set of Madballs brought out that are the size of an adult-sized sports ball.
The kind you would kick or toss along a field.
Madballs success lead to more merchandise releases, these included numerous Madballs stickers, shampoo bottles, kids comics, and this was just the start of it. Anything the company could think of they released without a known complaint.
In 1987, a "Madballs" cartoon series was brought out that even had created more of these gross characters for Saturday morning showings. Have you seen them around recently? There has been a newly created Madballs series brought out to restart the toys past popularity for the next generation of of boys. Another company has restated the fad of fun with American Greetings; now with new faces and the classic 80s characters, all ready for abuse by children in 2009. Ready? Prepare yourself for an amazing Madballs commercial.
