Family Ties Looking back 25 Years Family Ties ran for 8 years and starred Michael J. Fox as Alex P. Keaton, the conservative, business-oriented son of liberal parents Elyse and Steven (Meredith Baxter-Birney and Michael Gross). Elyse was a successful architect, while Steven ran a public television station. They lived in suburban Columbus, Ohio with their children: Alex (Michael J Fox, Mallory (Justine Bateman) and Jennifer (Tina Yothers). Another child, Andrew (Brian Bonsall), was added later. The majority of the show's humor was derived from the tension between Alex's conservative, Republican mindset, Mallory's uninformed consumerism, and their parents' attitudes as liberal Democrats, who grew up as hippie flower children in the 1960s. This show gave Michael J Fox his shot at superstardom, and aren't we all glad it did! This show began two spinoffs, Day by Day, which lasted two seasons, and The Art of Being Nick, which was produced as a pilot but never picked up as a series.

You Bet Your Life TV Pilot 1949 The first and most famous version was hosted by Groucho Marx, with the unflappable announcer and assistant George Fenneman. The show debuted on radio in 1947, then made the transition to TV. The television version was changed very little from the radio version. It was filmed before a studio audience, then slightly edited for television broadcast. In 1960 it was renamed The Groucho Show and ran another year. This pilot was made for CBS. You can see stagehands adjusting the microphones during the broadcast. Groucho himself doesn't bother to dress up for his debut! Recorded on December 5, 1949.

The Moody Blues Nights in White Satin Live A live concert performance in 1970. Band member Justin Hayward wrote the song in 1967 at age nineteen, and titled it after a friend gave him a gift of satin bedsheets. The song itself was a tale of a yearning love from afar, which leads many to term it as a tale of unrequited love endured by Hayward. The London Festival Orchestra provided the musical accompaniment heard throughout, and which reached its climax before and after the song itself and the spoken-word poem. The band and orchestra makes use of the Mellotron keyboard device, which would come to define the "Moody Blues sound". The band has had numerous hit albums in the UK, U.S., and worldwide, and has seen several additional musicians come and go. They remain active even as of 2007, with tour dates in the American Northeast announced.

Peter Brady Volcano One of the most famous scenes in the five-year run of The Brady Bunch was Peter Brady's volcano erupting all over Marcia's stuck-up schoolmates. It was actually just a subplot of a 1972 episode that centered around Marcia adjusting to high school titled Today I Am A Freshman.

Nights in White Satin Here's my favorite from Moody Blues. This is the first video of this song from Paris, 1967. 'Nights' was written by Justin Hayward, who joined the band the previous year. He got the idea for the song after someone gave him a set of white satin sheets, and wrote it in his bed. It was originally released in 1967, but didn't do very well in the US because the song was over six minutes long and a lot of people never heard of the band. In 1972, after songs like 'Hey Jude and 'Layla' paved the way for long, dramatic songs and the band became well known, this was re-released in the US and became a hit.
