Space Age Lodge in Gila Bend Arizona circa 1960s Another of those tacky motels that appeared across America. This one is in Gila Bend, Arizona (pronounced Hee-La) This motel is southwest of Phoenix on the way to Mexico and took its que from the popularity of the space craze in the early sixties. The hotel was shut down for many years and recently renovated and is even tackier. I wasn't aware that it had been renovated until I went looking for pics of it in the 60's. I drove by this area a few years ago and it was abandoned.

Buddies Tom and Jerry . . u remember Saturday morning! . . Jerry slicing Tom in half, shutting his head in a window or a door, Tom using everything from axes, pistols, explosives, traps and poison to try to murder Jerry, Jerry stuffing Tom's tail in a waffle iron, kicking him into a refrigerator, plugging his tail into an electric socket, pounding him with a mace, club or mallet, causing a tree to drive him into the ground and so on. . . ah, the good ol' days!!

The Last Word No daughter really likes to listen to their mother go on an on about anything, which is why this teen couldn't take it any longer and told her mom to shut up about her new IKEA stuff or she'd shave off all her hair. It's funny how moms always seem to get the last word.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes I couldn't make this up if I tried, this was a real movie that was released in 1978. After a wave of reports of mysterious attacks involving people and pets being eaten by the traditionally docile fruit, a special government task force is set up to investigate and put a stop to their murderous spree. Included in this crack team are a lieutenant who never goes anywhere without his parachute, an underwater expert who's never out of his scuba gear, and a master of disguise who conceals his appearance by dressing as a black Adolf Hitler.

1947 Movie Stars Parade Began as a dancer on Broadway and got her big break when Betty Hutton developed measles during the run of PANAMA HATTIE and understudy Ms. Allison got to step into the role. After this, she was hired for the musical, BEST FOOT FORWARD, and would later reprise her role for the MGM film version of the same musical . . .

1939 Rose Bowl Program I love this program for two reasons: First, it's simply beautiful. Second, it's from one of my favorite sports events in history--the 1939 Rose Bowl game. Going into the game, Duke University had won every one of its football games in 1938 by shutout. They led USC 3-0 until the final minute when the Trojans got a late touchdown and won 7-3. How heartbreaking would that loss have been?
