Police Woman 1974 to1978 Another police drama of the 70's, starring Angie Dickinson and Earl Holliman. How many of you remember Earl Holliman as Sundance in the CBS western series Hotel DeParee in the very early 60's.

My Little Margie Comic Book 1955 My Little Margie was a situation comedy that alternated between CBS and NBC from 1952 to 1955. It premiered on CBS as the summer replacement for I Love Lucy on June 16, 1952... Set in New York City, the series starred Gale Storm as 21-year-old Margie Albright and former silent film star Charles Farrell as her widowed father, 50-year-old Vern Albright. Both shared the same apartment at the Carlton Arms Hotel.

Space Age Lodge in Gila Bend Arizona circa 1960s Another of those tacky motels that appeared across America. This one is in Gila Bend, Arizona (pronounced Hee-La) This motel is southwest of Phoenix on the way to Mexico and took its que from the popularity of the space craze in the early sixties. The hotel was shut down for many years and recently renovated and is even tackier. I wasn't aware that it had been renovated until I went looking for pics of it in the 60's. I drove by this area a few years ago and it was abandoned.

Roosevelt Hotel Extremely historic place for Hollywood buffs. Spanish Revival style. Opened in 1929 with owners including Louis B. Meyer, Douglas Fairbanks, and Mary Pickford. The first academy awards were held here in 1928 or 1929 (then called the "Merit Awards") in the "Blossom Room". The set for the TV show "This is Your Life" was located here. The Cinegrill was a famous 1940s nightclub still existing inside. Marilyn Monroe used to stay here and her ghost is said to still haunt the halls (hey - it helps business). Reasonable rates, but rooms facing Hollywood Blvd may be a bit noisier. You can see the hotel in the films Beverly Hills Cop II and Charlie's Angels 2.

Bosom Buddies ABC 1980 to 1982 Who would have thought this sitcom would be the catalyst that would help rocket Tom Hanks into superstardom? It was a funny show, after their own apartment building was demolished, Kip Wilson (Tom Hanks) and Henry Desmond (Peter Scolari) had to pose as females in order to live in the all female Susan B. Anthony Hotel because of the dirt cheap rent. There were several fine performances by Donna Dixon, Wendie Jo Sperber, Holland Taylor, Lucille Benson and Telma Hopkins of Tony Orlando and Dawn fame. This reminded me of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in Some Like It Hot.

Petticoat Junction theme Petticoat Junction had one of the most recognizable TV themes ever. This is the opening from the first season (1963-64). Petticoat Junction enjoyed its best ratings during that first season and was a staple of the CBS lineup. The show suffered greatly after Bea Benaderet died in 1968 and last aired in September 1970. The black-and-white shows from the first two seasons were never put into syndication. I would have stayed at the Shady Rest Hotel just for the scenery. The scenery's names were Billie Jo, Bobby Jo and Betty Jo.

The Stanley Hotel Look familiar? . . the Stanley Hotel in Colorado reports several spirits, but the most notable are those of the original owner, F.O. Stanley and his wife, Flora. She used to entertain guests by playing the piano and staff report hearing music from that room or the piano keys moving even when the music stops as they enter. When horror writer Stephen King stayed in room 217 he was inspired to write The Shining. . . redrum!!!!

Fatty Arbuckle scandal 1921 One of the most tragic figures in movie history was Roscoe (Fatty) Arbuckle. Arbuckle was among the most popular figures in silent comedy until his career abruptly ended in scandal in 1921. He was accused of sexually assaulting actress Virginia Rappe at a party at a San Francisco hotel on Labor Day. (Rappe died shortly thereafter of a ruptured bladder.) Arbuckle was tried twice for murder; both times the trials resulted in hung juries. Most film history buffs believe Arbuckle was innocent and was the victim of malicious gossip. Nevertheless his career ended because of the adverse publicity. He died a broken man 12 years later at age 46.
