Lewis started her career as a vocalist with Benny Goodman's orchestra and went onto record several jazz hits in the 1940s. In 1950, she hit Hollywood, signing an exclusive contract for music and movies with MGM. Her film credits include 1951's "The Strip" with Mickey Rooney and "Excuse My Dust" with Red Skelton. He And She - Failed Sitcom 1967 In the fall of 1967 CBS introduced one of its first urbane, "sophisticated" situation comedies--He & She. It flopped despite having an excellent cast. Real-life husband and wife Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss played Dick and Paula Hollister. Dick was a cartoonist; Paula worked for Travelers' Aid in New York City. Dick's creation of Jetman was turned into a TV series with Jack Cassidy playing the role. Even though it had two blockbuster hits (The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres) preceding it in CBS' Wednesday night lineup, viewers generally did not stick around for He & She. Benjamin believed that the two popular lead-in shows actually served to hurt He & She because its urban comedy was a world apart from that of the rural sitcoms. Twenty-six episodes were made in the lone season it aired. Here is the opening montage.

Mickey Mantle Avoids DP - 1960 WS This is one of the smartest baserunning plays you'll ever see: It's Game #7 of the 1960 World Series. The New York Yankees are trailing the Pittsburgh Pirates by one run (9-8) with one out in the top of the ninth inning. Gil McDougald is on third base. Mickey Mantle is on first base. Yogi Berra hits a sharp ground ball to Pittsburgh first baseman Rocky Nelson. Nelson steps on first base for the second out of the inning. Mickey Mantle appears to be a dead duck for the Series-ending out, but with the force play now removed, he dives back into first base, eluding the surprised Nelson's tag. McDougald scored the game-tying run. (As any baseball fan worth his salt knows, the Pirates won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning when Bill Mazeroski led off with a home run.)
