JFK and John Pringle at Round Hill Jamaica In the early 1950s, Jamaican businessman John Pringle bought 98 acres on a peninsula eight miles west of Montego Bay, then sold shares of the former pineapple plantation to his celebrity friends. Roosevelt Hotel Extremely historic place for Hollywood buffs. Spanish Revival style. Opened in 1929 with owners including Louis B. Meyer, Douglas Fairbanks, and Mary Pickford. The first academy awards were held here in 1928 or 1929 (then called the "Merit Awards") in the "Blossom Room". The set for the TV show "This is Your Life" was located here. The Cinegrill was a famous 1940s nightclub still existing inside. Marilyn Monroe used to stay here and her ghost is said to still haunt the halls (hey - it helps business). Reasonable rates, but rooms facing Hollywood Blvd may be a bit noisier. You can see the hotel in the films Beverly Hills Cop II and Charlie's Angels 2.

GOODFELLAS Trailer The story of Irish-Italian American, Henry Hill, and how he lived his day to day life as a member of the Mafia. This film was actually based on the true story of Henry Hill, who was eventually placed in the witness protection program. Bobby DeNiro gave an awesome performance, as did Joe Peschi, in fact the entire cast gave a really believable performance of how it was being involved with La Familia back in the 50's and 60's. I sometimes forget that they were only acting. Everytime I watch this I find myself getting hungry, there are a couple of scenes where Henry is putting together a great Italian meal, and I don't think there's an Italian out there who's been able to sit and watch this without wishing for some pasta and sausage.

THE HAUNTING Trailer 1963 Forget any other horror film, or any other film about the supernatural you've ever seen, this will scare the c*** out of you, no joke. I was raised watching these types of films, with my mom, so I've seen them all, but this scared me to death. It's what you don't see that will get to you. And there were no special visual effects, like in so many other films of this type, it was all done with sound effects, relying on your imagination to finish the job. Shirley Jackson wrote the book, from which this was taken, in 1959, titled The Haunting of Hill House.

REMEMBERING MAMA CASS ELLIOTT Dream a Little Dream Cass Elliot was born Ellen Naomi Cohen on Sept 19th 1941. Her restauranteur father nicknamed her'Cass' after the Trojan princess, Cassandra. She adopted the name Cass Elliot during her teens. The name Mama Cass evolved from her involvement with the Mamas and Papas. This is what John Phillips said about Cass in an interview in August 1995 at Paramount Studios: "Her father had a deli in New York. I remember her as a little, chubby girl, with the stained apron on, behind the counter. [Laughs] We were sort of infamous in that area, and when she got to New York, she knew who we were, but we didn't know who she was. And she had met Denny, and Denny said, "I know this girl that sings wonderfully. We should have her over and sing with her." It happened to be that LSD was actually legal at the time. It wasn't a banned drug or anything. We searched all over the Village and found some contemporary artist who had some and he gave it to us. We were about to take it that night, when the knock on the door came and Cass came in. So we all had it together the same night, for the first time, and I think that formed a bond between the four of us that we just never stopped singing. We just went on and on and on and on, until the trip wore off, which was about four years later." Cass Elliott died July 29, 1974. Contrary to what many people have been led to believe over the years, she did not choke on a sandwich. According to her doctor, the cause was heart failure.
