Johnny Quest Cartoon Opening Sequence 60s credit to RetroJunk dot Com An action packed cartoon that I watched on Saturday mornings in the 60s while eating my bowl of Crap N' Crunch cereal! What ever became of Johnny Quest, Dr. Benton Quest, Race Bannon and Hadji? Little did they know what the future had in store for them. Poor Dr. Quest died in prison after being convicted of the illegal use of nuclear material in direct violation of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Race Bannon is now suffering from brain damage after taking one too many blows to the head, is in a nursing home and has to have this Depends changed hourly; and sadly, poor Johnny Quest lost his job and it was sent to India due to corporate greed, Americans wanting more money for doing less work and the flood of illegal immigrants from Mexico coming to the United States. Distraught, Johnny Quest had no choice but to immigrate to India to find work where he now works for Hadji at a Calcutta call center owned by an American company validating rebates for Salad Shooters for a few Rubles a day. Bandit is in doggy heaven after dying of natural causes in 1974.

HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN Intro Micheal Landon's second pairing with Victor French (the two both starred on Little House on the Prairie). This show was about Jonathon Smith, an angel sent down by God, a/k/a "The Boss," to partner up with ex-Oakland cop Mark Gordon. They would be assigned duties by the Boss in which they would help people see a better life, and sometimes help each other. The show ran for 5 years on NBC. RIP Michael

Louella Parsons on Judy Garland i wish Louella Parsons "GOOD NEWS" from a 1949 MODERN SCREEN magazine had indeed been correct . . . she died twenty years later of an accidental overdose of barbiturates. . " WHAT IS really the matter with Judy Garland? That is the question hurled at me everywhere I go. All right, let's get at it. Judy is a nervous and frail little girl who suffers from a sensitiveness almost bordering on neurosis. It is her particular temperament to be either walking in the clouds with excitement or way down in the dumps with worry. The least thing to go wrong leaves her sleepless and shattered. She has never learned the philosophy of "taking it easy." Last year, when she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, she got in the habit of taking sleeping pills -- too many of them -- to get the rest she had to have. I'm not revealing any secrets telling you that. It was printed at the time. But for a highly emotional and highly strung girl to completely abandon sedatives, as Judy attempted to do when she realized she was taking too many, puts a terrific strain on the nervous system. The trouble is, Judy does not take enough time to rest. The minute she starts feeling better she wants to go back to work. She cried like a baby when she learned she was not strong enough to make The Barkleys of Broadway with Fred Astaire so soon following The Pirate and Easter Parade. "I'm missing the greatest role of my career," she sobbed. With Judy -- each role is always the greatest. Sometimes I believe Judy's frail little form is packed with too much talent for her own good. She is an artist, and I mean ARTIST, at too many things. She sings wonderfully and dances almost as well. And as for her acting -- well, listen to what Joseph Schenk, one of the really big men of our industry and head of 20th Century Fox (not Judy's studio) has to say. I sat next to Joe the night we saw Easter Parade. He told me, "Judy Garland is one of the great artists of the screen. She can do anything. I consider her as fine an actress as she is a musical comedy star. There is no drama I wouldn't trust her with. She could play such drama as Seventh Heaven as sensitively as a Janet Gaynor or a Helen Mencken." And I agree with every word Joe said. I am happy to tell you as I report the Hollywood news this month that Judy is coming along wonderfully, resting and getting back the bloom of health. Soon we will have her back on the screen -- her long battle with old Devil Nerves behind her and forgotten."

Yul Brynner in The King and I 1956 Lava's clip from My Fair Lady reminded me of the night in 1977, when I took my mom to see Yul Brynner live in The King and I at the Miami Beach Theatre of the Performing Arts. We were fortunate enough to have great seats a couple of rows behind the orchestra, and had a perfect view of the stage. I'd seen Yul Brynner hundreds of times on the screen, but never in person. He was magnificent! Such a handsome man, and his stage presence just blew me away, my mom was in heaven as well! Mrs Anna Leonowens was played by Constance Towers, who years later played Helena Cassadine in General Hospital. After the play, when the audience was leaving, we ran back to where the stage door was on the side of the building just in time to see him get into his Limousine. As it drove right by us I could see him and I waved like crazy, and he waved back with that wonderful handsome smile! I'll never forget that as long as I live.

Neil Sedaka Another Brooklyn Boy Who Made it Big Neil first demonstrated musical aptitude in his second-grade choral class, and when his teacher sent a note home suggesting he take piano lessons, his mother got a job in a department store for six months to pay for a second-hand upright. He took to the instrument immediately. In 1947, he auditioned successfully for a piano scholarship to the prestigious Juilliard School of Music's Preparatory Division for Children. The best-known Billboard Hot 100 hits of his early career were "Oh! Carol", "Calendar Girl", "You Mean Everything to Me", "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen", and "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do". "Oh! Carol" referred to Neil's former girlfriend Carole King. In 2007, Sedaka continues to perform regularly. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in October 2006. Last month, a special concert was presented at the Lincoln Center in New York City, to honor the 50th anniversary of Sedaka's debut in show business. In this clip Neil does a medley of his hits Stairway to Heaven, Hey Little Devil, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen and Calendar Girl.

SMOKEY MOUNTAIN RAIN Live from Branson Ronnie Milsap is one of those singers who makes any song they sing unforgettable. Whenever I hear this, I think back to our honeymoon trip, we'd been married for 19 years and finally made it. Driving through the beautiful Smokey Mountains of SC, NC and VA, after it rained on those mountain roads it left a mist you could see throughout the hills and valleys, just beautiful...it was like being in heaven, and this song brings it all back again.

Julius LaRosa Sings This Is Heaven Probably from early 1953, Julius LaRosa sings This Is Heaven on Arthur Godfrey and His Friends. This guy has a great voice! Sadly today he is mostly remembered for being fired by Godfrey on the air later that year in one of broadcasting's most infamous moments.
