The Clangers British stop motion animated children's television series. The first episode was broadcast by the BBC on November 16, 1969 and a further twenty-five episodes were made. The twenty sixth episode was broadcast on November 10, 1972 and the final Clangers programme was a four minute election special on October 10, 1974. The programme featured a number of small creatures living in peace and harmony on - and in - a small, hollow planet far far away, nourished by Blue String Pudding, and Green Soup harvested from the planet's volcanic soup wells by the Soup Dragon. The Clangers looked similar to mice and anteaters, though they were pink, wore clothes, and spoke in whistles. These whistles (performed on swanee whistles)followed the rhythm and intonation of a script in the English language, including swear-words!

Id Like to Buy the World a Coke In the 1970s, market research showed that consumers preferred the taste of Pepsi over Coke. The Pepsi Challenge is still being conducted today. But Coke came up with what is arguably the best of all cola commercials, the 1971 I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke ad. This landmark was recalled in Christmas versions in 1983 and 1984, and a 1990 Super Bowl ad, which was enough to make some Baby Boomers weep with nostalgia

Phil Everly Dead at 74 It has been reported that Phil Everly (who with his older brother Don comprised the singing duo The Everly Brothers) died in California on January 3, 2014 of respiratory illness. He was 74. The pleasing harmony of Everly Brothers made them one of the most successful recording artists of the 1950s and early 1960s. In fact, Rolling Stone declared them to be the most important duo of the rock-and-roll era. Their timeless hit songs included Bye Bye Love, Wake Up Little Susie, Let it Be Me, and Cathy's Clown.

DeMarco Sisters on WML The singing DeMarco sisters were mystery guests on the February 22, 1953 episode of What's My Line. Largely forgotten today, the DeMarcos became popular from their appearances on Fred Allen's radio program. They give a sample of their lovely harmony at the end of the clip. This was Hal Block's next-to-last show as a WML panelist. Steve Allen was being groomed to replace him.
