Farrah Fawcett -In April 1976, a poster company Pro Arts Inc., that had started out making anti-war posters, started to hear about a young up-and-coming beauty named Farrah Fawcett doing Wella Balsam shampoo commercials. Fawcett arranged to have Bruce McBroom, a freelance photographer with whom she had worked with before, do the shoot. McBroom took the pictures at Farrah's poolside Bel Air, California home!! --On September 22, 1976, the first episode of Fawcett playing the character Jill Munroe in the TV series Charlie's Angels was aired. Around the same time, her swimsuit poster was released. It went on to sell a still-unrivaled 12 million copies and she became known for her tousled hair and bright smile. The hairstyle went on to become an international trend, with women sporting a "Farah-Do" or "Farrah Hair" and the hairstyle was even spoofed in various media... (born February 2, 1947) is an American actress. She was a noted pop culture figure whose hairstyle was emulated by millions of young women, and a sex symbol for millions of young men in the 1970s and 1980s. She went on to become a critically accepted actress, appearing in television movies (The Burning Bed, Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story and sometimes unsympathetic Small Sacrifices)...Fawcett was married to Lee Majors, star of The Six Million Dollar Man, from 19731982, though the two separated in 1979. During this time, she was known as Farrah Fawcett-Majors....From 1982 to the present, Fawcett has been involved romantically with actor Ryan O'Neal. The relationship produced a son, Redmond O'Neal, who was born in 1985.

1964 Hairstyles Here is the brunette Colleen Corby in the August 1964 issue of Seventeen magazine to remind us all of what a girl had to suffer before she could create her hairdo! Ouchie! Whether you used these brush hair rollers or orange juice cans for curlers, sleeping in these was a chore, not to mention a pain. Anything for beauty, right? But once you got the important stuff out of the way, like rolling up your hair, THEN you could concentrate on your chemistry homework and fidget with your slide rule, a portable mechanical analog computer. To sum it up, today we use handheld electronic calculators; But women STILL go to great lengths and pains for their hairstyles!

Buddy Holly Plane Crash This is a photo montage of the plane wreck that killed singers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson (a.k.a. The Big Bopper) early on February 3, 1959. Pilot Roger Peterson also was killed. The three musicians had performed at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA the night before and were headed to Fargo, ND, the closest airport to their next stop on their tour--Moorhead, MN. They decided to leave ahead of the rest of their group because of their dislike of the cold touring bus and to get their laundry done. The ages of the deceased foursome make this tragedy truly sad: Holly was 22, Richardson was 28, Valens was 17, Peterson was 21. Investigators attributed the crash to pilot error (specifically inexperience with the Bonanza aircraft's altitude gauge) combined with bad winter weather. The crash was neither seen nor heard by anyone on the ground. Investigators calculated it occurred about four minutes after takeoff from Mason City's small airport. The charter plane's owner became concerned when Peterson did not report his flight plan after takeoff which he said he would do. The wreckage of the plane was found in a farmer's corn field about nine hours after the crash. All three singers had been thrown from the plane while Peterson's body was trapped in the twisted metal. In a strange and morbid twist, nearly half a century later in 2007 Richardson's body was exhumed to satisfy the curiosity of his son (who hadn't been born at the time of the crash). He had heard wild rumors that his father may have actually survived the crash and had been shot to death! The well preserved corpse of Richardson--with its perfectly cropped flat-top hairstyle--showed that death was instaneous due to countless fractures consistent with an airplane crash victim. Richardson's son spent several minutes "visiting" his father whom he had never known.

Federer Upsets Sampras - 2001 The only time two of the greatest and classiest tennis champions of all time--Roger Federer and Pete Sampras--ever met in an ATP match was in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2001. Federer was an unknown 19-year-old Swiss player. He was given virtually zero chance to beat the 30-year-old Sampras who had won Wimbledon seven times and was largely considered to be invincible on grass. Nevertheless Federer evenly battled Sampras through five sets and emerged victorious. This clip shows match point and the aftermath. Check out Federer's goofy hairstyle!
