The Omen The story tells of the childhood of Damien Thorn, who was switched at birth with the murdered child of a wealthy American diplomat. Damien's family is unaware that he is actually the offspring of Satan and destined to become the Antichrist. . this 1976 thriller starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, and David Warner. . . but scariest of all (for me) was the music!!

Did This Scare You Out of the Water For anyone who hasn't seen this film, Jaws is a 1975 thriller directed by Steven Spielberg, based on Peter Benchley's best-selling novel inspired by the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. Jaws bears similarities to several literary and artistic works, most notably Moby-Dick by Herman Melville. The character of Quint strongly resembles Captain Ahab, the obsessed captain of the Pequod who devotes his life to hunting a sperm whale. Quint's monologue reveals his similar vendetta against sharks, and even his boat, the Orca, is named after the only natural enemy of sharks. A direct reference to these similarities may be found in the original screenplay, which introduced Quint by showing him watching the film version of Moby-Dick. His laughter throughout made people get up and leave the theater (Wesley Strick's screenplay for Cape Fear featured a similar scene). However, the scene from Moby-Dick could not be licensed from Gregory Peck, the owner of the rights. The final scenes of the film, in which the men chase the shark and try to harpoon it with flotation barrels, parallel the chase for Moby-Dick in the novel. We have this in our library and watch it usually once a month. There's something about this film that sticks in my memory, and no, I never went back into the water.

The Ghost and Mrs Muir 1947 The trailer of Joseph Leo Mankiewicz's classic with Rex Harrison and the dazzlingly beautiful actress Gene Tierney....The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" gave its star, Gene Tierney, one of the best roles of her career, after "Laura". she had the fragility to portray Lucy Muir, the plucky young widow who decides to move to the coast against her in-laws wishes. The idea of the film plays well as it unfolds because obviously, what she is experiencing is all in her mind. Rex Harrison's Capt. Daniel Gregg was also one of his best opportunities as a leading man in the movies. He's perfect as the crusty old seaman that refuses to abandon his beloved home overlooking a beautiful view of the sea. Mr. Harrison plays well opposite Ms. Tierney; their chemistry works well because it combines his rugged good looks and her beauty.

The Boys From Brazil 1978 The character of Ezra Lieberman is thought by many to be modeled on the famous real life Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal. Olivier plays a Nazi hunter in this film while in Marathon Man (1976), he played Dr. Christian Szell, an evil Nazi doctor. Szell was known as "The White Angel", whereas Mengele was known as the "Angel of Death". Both of the lead actors, Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier, played General Douglas MacArthur in films produced roughly the same time as The Boys From Brazil, Peck in MacArthur (1977) and Olivier in Inchon (1981). Peck's performance as the evil Mengele contrasts with the heroic roles he was most famous for playing, notably Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Bradys Sing Time To Change This is from a 1972 episode of The Brady Bunch titled Dough Re Mi. You've probably seen it a dozen times: Greg writes a surefire hit song (We Can Make The World A Whole Lot Brighter) and cajoles the other five Brady kids to chip in to buy time at a recording studio. But, oh no, puberty sets in and Peter's voice starts to change! It looks like the Brady kids will have to forfeit their non-refundable $150, but Greg saves the day by writing Time To Change--a song that features Peter's cracking voice.

Emmett Till Murder 1955 One of the most despicable incidents in the era of the Jim Crow South occurred in the summer of 1955. Emmett Till, a 14-year-old black boy from Chicago, was visiting a great uncle in rural Money, Mississippi. Till, who was unused to the Deep South's severe racial segregation policies, made the fatal mistake of flirting with Carolyn Bryant, an attractive married white woman who ran a general store in Money with her husband, Roy. Depending on which version of the story you believe, Till may have whistled at Carolyn Bryant, grabbed her wrist, asked her for a date, or playfully called her 'baby.' Whatever the case, the incident resulted in vigilanteism. At least two men took Till from his uncle's home at gunpoint, beat him severely, shot him, weighted down Till's body, and tossed it into the Tallahatchie River. It was found by fishermen three days later. Two men (Roy Bryant and his half-brother J.W. Milam) were brought to trial. They were found not guilty by an all-white jury that deliberated for a little more than an hour. The two suspects later admitted to the crime after being paid $4,000 by Look Magazine for their story. Till's mother put her son's grotesquely bloated and battered body on display in an open casket before his funeral. Pictures of Till's corpse appeared in many newspapers around the world. Some estimates say that 50,000 mourners filed past his casket. Many historians claim the uproar surrounding the Emmett Till case instigated the Civil Rights movement. Milam and Bryant both died of cancer in the early 1990s. They remained unrepentant about the crime until their deaths.
