AIRPLANE Trailer 1980 A masterpiece of off the wall comedy, Airplane stars Robert Hays as an exfighter pilot forced to take over the control of an airliner when the flight crew succumbs to food poisoning, Julie Hagerty as his girlfriend, stewardess, co-pilot, and a cast of all-stars including Peter Graves, Leslie Nielson, Robert Stack and Lloyd Bridges. This film became a cult classic. I was never able to see these actors in quite the same way again lol

The Original Mission Impossible IMO, one season of this series was worth more than all of Tom Cruise's later films put together. Each episode of 'Mission: Impossible', which ran from 1966-1973, featured a unique opening. Clips from the upcoming show were edited together in the fast-paced style of Lalo Schrifrin's brilliant theme song and played before the opening credits. The episodes featured here are from the second and third seasons. You'll find some interesting MI trivia in the Comments Section...

Empress of Ireland Tragedy 1914 An almost forgotten maritime tragedy is the sinking of The Empress of Ireland, a trans-Atlantic ocean linear owned by the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company. At about 2 a.m. on May 29, 1914, during one of its regular voyages from Quebec City to Liverpool, it collided with the Norwegian ship Storstad in the cold waters of the St. Lawrence River. Out of the 1,477 passengers aboard, 1,012 perished. The high death toll was largely attributable to how quickly the ship sank (14 minutes) and that most of the passengers were in bed when the accident occurred. Among the dead were 167 Salvation Army musicians who were travelling to England to perform at a charity function. A Canadian inquiry into the disaster blamed the Storstad for the collision while a Norwegian inquiry blamed the Empress of Ireland. For years the Empress of Ireland was visited by scuba divers who plundered some of its valuables. However, it is now illegal to dive near the wreck as the Canadian government has declared it a maritime gravesite. (There are human remains inside the ship.) There are no living survivors from that awful night. The last one died in 1985.

MT Graves Entertained US Kids in Miami As videoholic showed us, nothing quite compares to those local television shows. In Miami in the 50's and 60's we had Charlie Baxter, a newscaster, who had fun playing ghoulish 'MT Graves' down in his dungeon every Saturday afternoon on WCKT Channel 7. The program began with the cell door rising up to the sounds of screeching and squeaking and a loud clank. In the background, eerie music played, and human screaming and shrieking could be heard. M.T. climbed out of the coffin to greet his viewers at the beginning of each program, and climbed back into it at the end, saying his greetings and farewells to his fans. My dad, who did painting for several TV stations back then, took me with him one Saturday and I got to sit in the audience. What a thrill that was! It just goes to show that it doesn't take much to entertain a kid.
