Fred Snodgrass 1912 World Series Goat This is a photo of the first in a long line of World Series 'goats'--ballplayers who made critical blunders in the spotlight of the Fall Classic. In 1912, Fred Snodgrass of the New York Giants dropped Clyde Engel's routine fly ball in the bottom of the 10th inning of the deciding game of the World Series. The muff led to the Boston Red Sox turning a one-run deficit into a stunning 3-2 win. Sports writers called it the '$30,000 muff' because that was the difference between the winners' share of the 1912 World Series receipts and the losers' share. Despite an enormously successful real estate career in California after he retired from baseball, Snodgrass could never escape his infamous error. On April 5, 1974, the headline of Snodgrass' obituary in the New York Times read, 'Snodgrass, 86, Dead. Ballplayer Muffed 1912 Fly.'

Aimee Semple McPherson Scandal 1926 Sex scandals involving evangelists are not new. The first one occurred back in 1926, when the leading radio evangelist of the day, Aimee Semple McPherson, was allegedly involved in a doozy with a married man. On May 18, 1926, the 35-year-old McPherson arrived at Ocean Park Beach in California with her secretary for a day of swimming. Shortly after their arrival, McPherson disappeared. McPherson's mother delivered a sermon that night in place of Aimee and informed the congregation that Aimee was 'with Jesus.' The following day, hundreds of concerned parishioners ventured to Ocean Park Beach to look for their beloved Sister Aimee. One parishioner drowned and another died of exposure in the unsuccessful search. Not long after Aimee vanished, Kenneth G. Ormiston, the married engineer of the radio station McPherson owned, also disappeared. Five weeks later, Aimee emerged from the Mexican desert in a town just across the border from Douglas, Arizona. She claimed she had been kidnapped, drugged, tortured, and held for ransom in a shack. Aimee further stated she had escaped from her captors and walked 13 hours through the desert to freedom. Her story was implausible, to say the least. No shack was ever found. Aimee's shoes showed no signs of a 13-hour desert trek. (Moreover, they had grass stains on them!) She was last seen wearing a bathing suit, but reappeared in a dress and wearing a wristwatch she hadn't taken to the beach. Several witnesses claimed they had seen McPherson with Ormiston at various motels during the 35 days she was missing. McPherson and her mother were eventually charged with obstruction of justice, but the charges were dropped early the following year.

Censored Shirley Temple Film Curly Top (1935) was one of Shirley Temple's first feature films for 20th Century Fox. In it Shirley played a lovable, spunky orphan. The film is best known for Shirley's famous 'Animal Crackers' song. Movie scholars also remember Curly Top as the film that featured a controversial Temple hula dance that ended up on the cutting room floor. What did seven-year-old Shirley do to ire the censors? She wore a grass hula skirt but no top! The public didn't see little Shirley's bare torso until the late 1970s when the clip was included in the syndicated TV program 'That's Hollywood!' The hula scene is not included in DVDs or videotapes.

Whispering Grass This song was a spin off from the 70's TV show, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, in which an army concert party were posted to the jungles of Burma. Don Estelle and Windsor Davies bring a quirky style to this UK No.1 which was originally a sung by the Ink Spots way back in the forties.
