The Gong Show Probably the worst show in the history of broadcasting, the Gong Show, with host Chuck Barris is remembered for the oddball assortment of acts that graced the stage between 1976 and 1978.

Hillary Carlip on Gong Show Not every act on the Gong Show was pathetic. Watch comic juggler Hillary Carlip's winning act. You'll applaud her creative performance.

Gene Gene The Dancing Machine Gene Gene The Dancing Machine was a regular non-competing act on The Gong Show. He was actually an NBC stagehand who filled in on one show by dancing for two minutes. The public reaction was favorable and Gene became a semi-regular. (It was the 1970s. You had to be there.)

Miss Dolly on The Gong Show If you didn't watch The Gong Show in the seventies you missed out on some fabulous acts--like this one! Miss Dolly struts her considerable stuff in this 1977 episode. For some puzzling reason she was gonged. In case you're wondering about the sign that says It's Harold Schindler Night and the allusion to him after Miss Dolly's act, he was a critic who gave The Gong Show a terrible review. Chuck Barris responded by dedicating a show to him.

Miss Peggy Guy on The Gong Show Another off-the-wall act from that bastion of culture and good taste called The Gong Show...Miss Peggy Guy from 1976. (As Chuck Barris once quipped, I liked it, but I like faulty plumbing.)

The Unknown Comic The Unknown Comic (who was really Murray Langston) was an occasional non-competing act on The Gong Show. I've said it before: It was the seventies; you had to be there.

Gloria Hunter on the Gong Show I always liked The Gong Show for its zany, off-the-wall acts. But Gloria Hunter's act from 1977 is a little too odd--even for me.

Waltons Gong Show Act A very creative Gong Show act from 1977: A contestant plays both John-Boy and Grandpa Walton. This was the winning act that day. (The video quality isn't great at some points. Sorry!)

Chuck Barris Interview 2007 Chuck Barris, the man who created The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game, and of course The Gong Show, answers frequently asked questions (that he conveniently wrote himself) in this 2007 interview.
