Fred Snodgrass 1912 World Series Goat This is a photo of the first in a long line of World Series 'goats'--ballplayers who made critical blunders in the spotlight of the Fall Classic. In 1912, Fred Snodgrass of the New York Giants dropped Clyde Engel's routine fly ball in the bottom of the 10th inning of the deciding game of the World Series. The muff led to the Boston Red Sox turning a one-run deficit into a stunning 3-2 win. Sports writers called it the '$30,000 muff' because that was the difference between the winners' share of the 1912 World Series receipts and the losers' share. Despite an enormously successful real estate career in California after he retired from baseball, Snodgrass could never escape his infamous error. On April 5, 1974, the headline of Snodgrass' obituary in the New York Times read, 'Snodgrass, 86, Dead. Ballplayer Muffed 1912 Fly.'

Buster Brown Shoes oh, i have a HORRIBLE story to share with you about Buster Browns!! YEA, HUH? When my Dad was little, his Uncle gave him a little goat . . (that's the good part) they were very poor and it was time for Dad to get a new outfit. They didn't have any money, so HIS MOTHER sold the goat unbeknownst to my Dad . . Daddy came home with this incredibly uncomfortable Buster Brown outfit . . and THEN couldn't find his little knot-headed buddy!! Of all the nerve!! Bothered him all his life . . So one year for Christmas, i got him a life-sized carved goat that a 'fellow' whittled out of wood, and i put it outside the picture window at my parent's house with a big red bow on it. On Christmas morning when my sister and I got down there (now in our 40's) and we had opened all our presents, i went and opened the curtains . .TA DA!! Dad was THRILLED . .Mom is STILL mad because it's an eye sore!! LOL

Laurel and Hardy Hide a Goat The last silent movie made by Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy was Angora Love (1929). A goat follows Stan and Ollie home from a pet shop, so they decide to keep it and hide it from their ill-tempered landlord (Edgar Kennedy). In this clip, the boys realize the goat has an unpleasant odor, so they decide to give it a bath.

The Monty Hall Problem In a 1990 issue of Parade Magazine, Marilyn vos Savant examined a question that was first posed to mathematicians in a statisticians' publication back in 1975. It was based on a situation that frequently came up on the TV game show Let's Make a Deal--thus it was dubbed the Monty Hall Problem in honor of the show's longtime host. Here's the situation: You are a contestant on Let's Make a Deal. You have to choose one of three doors numbered 1, 2, and 3. Behind one of the doors is a fabulous prize (a new car). Behind the other two doors are worthless prizes (a goat). Let's suppose you choose Door #1. Monty--who knows which door conceals the car--then opens Door #3 to reveal a goat. He asks you, "Do you want to change your choice of door to Door #2 or do you want to stick with Door #1?" One would think that either door is a 50:50 proposition--but that would be wrong. According to mathematicians, you have to consider the initial odds. By choosing Door #1 you had a 1/3 chance of picking the car and a 2/3 chance of picking a goat. Doors #2 and #3 offer a combined 2/3 chance of concealing the car. The fact that Door #3 is revealed does not change the original odds. It seems counterintuitive, but the math experts say you are better to make the switch to Door #2 as it will conceal the car 2/3 of the time.
