Funeral of King Edward VII This is a still photo of the funeral of Great Britain's King Edward VII in London on May 20, 1910. It brought together a remarkable collection of European royalty never before or afterward assembled. Mourning the 'uncle of Europe' was the new British king, Edward's son, George V. In addition, there were eight crowned heads in the procession: the German Emperor, plus the kings of Norway, Greece, Spain, Bulgaria, Denmark, Portugal, and Belgium. There were about 30 European princes among the mourners too--including Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. His assassination in 1914 was the powder keg that triggered the First World War. Most of the royalty present at Edward's funeral met inglorious ends as many European monarchies crumbled during the war or shortly afterward.

Knute Rockne Plane Crash Famed Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne and seven other men perished in an airplane crash on March 31, 1931. Rockne, 43, was travelling on business from Kansas City to Los Angeles on TWA Flight 599. The plane had only been airborne a short time when it lost a wing. It crashed on a farm near Bazaar, KS. Apparently the passengers were aware of their fate: It was reported that when Rockne's body was found, he was clutching a rosary. This memorial, erected on the crash site, was maintained for years by the 13-year-old boy who arrived first on the scene. Rockne's funeral cortege was witnessed by an estimated 300,000 people. It is often claimed that Flight 599 went down in or shortly after a thunderstorm. However, meteorological records show that there was no significant convective activity at the time. The accident was actually caused by the composition of the aircraft. Fokker Trimotor aircrafts were manufactured out of wood laminate; in this instance, moisture had leaked into the interior of one wing over a period of time and had weakened the glue bonding the structural members (called struts or spars) that prevented the wing from fluttering in flight. One spar finally failed; the wing developed an uncontrolled flutter and separated from the aircraft. The accident caused numerous changes in the operations of both TWA and the Aeronautics Branch of the US Department of Commerce, forerunner of today's FAA. All US airlines operating at that time were forced to remove Fokker Trimotors from service. The expense of this compounded with the bad publicity associated with Rockne's death almost sank TWA. The intense public interest in the cause of the accident also forced the Department of Commerce to abandon its policy of keeping the results of aircraft accident investigations secret.

President Franklin Roosevelt Funeral I know this is long but the historical significance is so worth. A time capsule of the history itself, the dress style, transportation and buildings.

Actor Charlie Sheen Dead At Age 46 Charlie Sheen the beloved actor of the hit TV show Two And A Half Men, embattled with alcohol, cocaine, prostitutes and adult film stars died Monday at the age of 46. To avoid a “media circus” his family had his body prepared for burial for later this week. YouRememberThat.com staffers acquired this cell phone photo from unidentified sources. In 2010, Sheen was the highest paid actor on television, earning US$1.8 million per episode of Two and a Half Men. Sheen's personal life has also made headlines, including reports about alcohol and drug abuse and marital problems as well as allegations of domestic violence. He was fired from his role on Two and a Half Men by CBS and Warner Bros. on March 7, 2011.. It is unknown if an autopsy has been performed for the cause of death; certainly after this report is made public an investigation into the cause his death will be launched. Sheen was born Carlos Irwin Estevez in New York City, the youngest son and third of four children of actor Martin Sheen and artist Janet Templeton Sheen has two older brothers, Emilio Estevez and Ramon Estevez, and a younger sister, Renée Estevez. Sheen has been married three times and has five children and it is unknown how many readers have read this article this point so far. On May 20, 1998, Sheen overdosed while using cocaine and was hospitalized. On March 7, 2011, CBS and Warner Bros. fired Sheen from Two and a Half Men. The official statement read: “After careful consideration, Warner Bros. Television has terminated Charlie Sheen's services on Two and a Half Men effective immediately.” If readers are still paying attention this, ths is an april fools joke. On February 28, 2011, during a national television interview in his home, Sheen publicly demanded a 50% raise for the show Two and a Half Men. On March 10, 2011, Sheen announced a nationwide tour, "My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option", which is scheduled to begin in Detroit on April 2.

Chick Stahl Mysterious Suicide - 1907 One of baseball's most peculiar mysteries was the suicide of Chick Stahl, the 34-year-old player-manager of the Boston Americans (later called the Red Sox), who took his own life on March 28, 1907 during spring training. Stahl's death by his own hand stunned the baseball world as Stahl was known as a happy-go-lucky fellow. The New York Times reported Stahl's death this way: WEST BADEN, Ind., March 29. — Charles Sylvester Stahl, known to baseball "rooters" throughout the country as "Chick" Stahl, the center fielder, and until two days ago the manager of the Boston American team, committed suicide in his room at the West Baden Springs Hotel by swallowing carbolic acid. He was dead when found. President Taylor of the club, who succeeded Stahl in the management of the team, immediately ordered the practice of the men stopped. When Stahl arose to-day he was in his usual good spirits. He shared his room with his eldest friend, ex-manager Jimmy Collins, and when the time came for going to practice, Stahl was not on hand. After waiting some time, Collins went to the room, and Stahl told him he had just drank some carbolic acid. In a few minutes he was in terrible agony, and to some of the members of the team who Collins called to the room Stahl said: "Boys, I couldn't help it; it drove me to it." The players did not know what their comrade meant, but they did know he was worried about something, as they had taken away a bottle of carbolic acid from him only a few days ago while the team was at Louisville, KY. (One unproven theory for Stahl's suicide claims that Stahl was being blackmailed by a woman who became pregnant by him. Stahl had gotten married just four months earlier. His widow died only a year after Stahl's suicide.) A friend in Fort Wayne, IN--where Stahl was laid to rest in a funeral attended by thousands--committed suicide in the same manner on March 30, adding another layer of intrigue to the mystery.

Baseball Broadcaster Tom Cheek Tom Cheek was the smooth radio voice of the Toronto Blue Jays from the team's inception in 1977 until 2004. Largely unknown outside of Canada, his most famous call was of Joe Carter's World Series-winning home run in 1993: "Touch 'em all, Joe! You'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!" Remarkably, Cheek never missed a single Jays' broadcast until June 4, 2004 when he had to attend his father's funeral. His absence that night ended his streak of 4,306 consecutive regular-season games at the mike. Sadly, less than two weeks after his father's death, Cheek was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. He left the broadcast booth to undergo treatment. He made only sporadic appearances at Jays' games after that. He did have a Lou Gehrig-type farewell appearance at Toronto's SkyDome in September 2004. The ceremony was sad and poignant. (Ken Singleton, a New York Yankees announcer, was so teary that he had to leave the broadcast booth.) Cheek died in October 2005 at the age of 66. He is honored in the Blue Jays' "Ring of Honor" at the SkyDome (now known as Rogers Centre) alongside the number 4,306.

Brittanie Cecil - Hockey Fan Fatality At any high-quality hockey game, pucks flying into the crowd at great speeds are a common occurrence. Injuries to fans occasionally happen. Only once in the long history of the NHL has a spectator been killed as a result of being struck by a puck. The victim was Brittanie Cecil, who ironically had been given her ticket to the game as an early 14th birthday present. Brittanie, an athletic girl from West Alexandria, OH, was watching the Columbus Blue Jackets play the Calgary Flames at Columbus' Nationwide Arena on March 16, 2002. A slapshot by the Blue Jackets' Espen Knutsen was deflected by the Flames' Derek Morris. It went over the glass behind the net, striking Brittanie in the left temple. Play carried on as the players were unaware of having inadvertently caused any serious injury. Although Brittanie had suffered a skull fracture, she walked on her own power to a first-aid station before being taken to Columbus Children's Hospital in an ambulance. Her only visible injury was a gash on her forehead. At the hospital, she suffered an initial seizure and was admitted, but the next day she appeared to be recovering. Brittanie was both communicative and ambulatory, and had no complaints of pain or dizziness. A CT-scan, however, had failed to catch a torn vertebral artery, resulting in severe clotting and swelling of the brain. On March 18, she developed a high fever and lost consciousness. She died nearly 48 hours after being struck, at 5:15 p.m. on March 18, 2002, two days before her 14th birthday. Brittanie's funeral cortege drew a procession of more than 150 cars. Attending the service was Blue Jackets' general manager Doug MacLean who spoke on behalf of the team. Knutsen and Morris, the two players who combined for the fatal slapshot, expressed remorse following Brittanie's death. Morris, who deflected the puck, explained, "You try to say, 'It happens all the time,' but you can't. I don't know how many times pucks get deflected over the glass, but it doesn't make it any better. You can always say, 'It's not my fault,' but you always feel like it is, a little." Knutsen was given the option of sitting out the next game by Blue Jackets coach Dave King. He chose to play, telling reporters, "I think about it all the time. It was a terrible accident, and I cannot get it off my mind." Knutsen was so shaken by what had happened that he could not handle meeting Brittanie's family until 2010--eight years after the accident. The following season, the NHL mandated that safety netting be installed in every arena to protect spectators seated behind the goal nets. This move was initially greeted with hostility by longtime hockey fans who didn't want their view of games obstructed and who further perceived the netting as an overreaction to a freak accident.
