McDonalds Trivia 1964 postcard featuring McDonald's Filet-o'-Fish McDonald's introduced the Filet-o'-Fish sandwich in the early 1960s in an effort to entice Catholics to the chain on Fridays. At the time, Catholics were not allowed to eat meat on any Friday of the calendar year.

For Old Fart Michael Richards on Fridays A younger Michael Richards as 'Combat Kid' on ABC's 'Fridays'. This was what SNL used to be, high energy, edgy and hip. SNL had become tedious and chances are that if you thought the same about Friday's you were just too young to understand the comedic references. SNL had become a media institution at that point, like Rolling Stone, which used to be considered part of The Underground Press, and if you had a media product to peddle it was simply a base that had to be touched by the star or written into the sketches. Friday's didn't care about any of that. From the announcer's screaming greeting 'Liiiiiiiiiive, from the Los Angeles basin!' to music by that day's hippest bands, Friday's showcased some of the most outrageous comedy to be found on TV. Most people remember Darrow Igus's Rasta Gourmet 'Do we bake it?' 'No no no no!' 'Do we fry it?' 'No no no no!' 'til finally 'We SMOKE it!' 'ya ya ya ya', exclaimed Igus' gourmet, whose only spice was Ganja. Michael Richard's Battle Boy got sicker and sicker as he developed the character, finally taking his little Sister hostage, burying her in the ground and threatening to torture her Barbie. Then there were the times he set his Army men on fire, complete with simulated screams. Very bizarre, but funny!

Caluccis Department - Failed Sitcom The premise for the 1973 CBS sitcom Calucci's Department seemed promising: James Coco starred as Joe Calucci, a supervisor of a state unemployment office in New York City. According to Total Television, Calucci "tried to manage a motley crew of nincompoops and deadbeats." Calucci also had a romantic interest with his secretary, Shirley Balukis, played by Candy Azzara. Unfortunately, Calucci's Department was slotted on Fridays at 8 p.m. This placed it directly against NBC's very popular Sanford and Son, so it had trouble establishing an audience. Calucci's Department was axed after just 11 episodes despite garnering generally favorable reviews. Here's part of the opening montage.

Kodiak - Failed TV Drama Here's an ABC promotional clip for Kodiak, a new 30-minute 1974 police show set in Alaska. Kodiak starred Clint Walker as Cal (Kodiak) McKay of the Alaska State Patrol. Walker had seldom been seen on television since his days on the western Cheyenne, which ended in 1963. Kodiak was doomed as ABC slotted it against NBC's megahit Sanford and Son. Poor ratings caused its cancellation after just four weeks. Here's a tidbit of trivia: Kodiak was the show that replaced The Brady Bunch in ABC's 8 p.m. time slot on Fridays.

Perfect Strangers Season 1 Intro Perfect Strangers is an American sitcom that ran for 8 seasons from March 25, 1986 to August 6, 1993 on the ABC television network. Created by Dale McRaven, the series chronicles the rocky coexistence of midwestern American Larry Appleton (Mark Linn-Baker) and his distant cousin from eastern Mediterranean Europe, Balki Bartokomous (Bronson Pinchot). Originally airing on Tuesdays for the short six-episode first season in the spring of 1986, it moved to Wednesdays in prime time in the fall of 1986. It remained on Wednesdays until March 1988, when it was moved to Fridays. The show found its niche there as the anchor for ABC's original TGIF Friday-night lineup, though it aired on Saturdays for a short time in 1992.
