In 1965 when I graduated high school my dad FINALLY let me get my driver's license so I could get a car and a job. Of course he went with me because he was going to make the down payment, so I had to really talk him into the car I wanted, as it was a 1963 fire engine red Dodge Dart GT ragtop. It was gorgeous, at least to me. My dad wasn't really crazy about it, because he said it had probably been owned by some teenager who drag raced it all the time, but hey, that was my dad. He did agree after a little whining, and I drove it out of the lot straight to my best friend's house! I was so excited, my first car, and it looked like something I had only dreamed of owning. He had wanted me to get a Metropolitan, because he said they were safer. Ugh. I had such good times in this car, going down the road with the radio blasting out the Beatles, at 100 mph. I drove it to my first job, I still remember heading home on the Interstate late at night, in the dead of a Florida winter (50 degrees), with the top down and the heat on full blast. A few months later I met Larry, he kept my car one day while I was at work and had the nerve to take off the white twin racing stripes I had put on the hood and the trunk. I was crushed! And my dad made it worse by thanking him for doing it!! So my car made it through our first born in 1966 and then I had to part with her when she began having oil problems. But I will always miss my little Dodge Dart.

In concert 1970 with the environmentalist "Big Yellow Taxi". Joni Mitchell, was born Roberta Joan Anderson on November 7, 1943, in Fort Macleod, Alberta. She is a Canadian musician, songwriter, and painter. Her
singing began in small nightclubs and busking on the streets of Toronto and in her native Western Canada. She subsequently became associated with the fast growing folk music scene of the mid-1960s in New York City. Later, while she was playing one night in "The Gaslight South", a club in Florida, David Crosby walked in and was immediately struck by her ability and her appeal as an artist. He took her back to Los Angeles, where he set about introducing her and her music to his friends. Mitchell achieved fame in the late 1960's and was considered a key part of the Southern California folk rock scene. Throughout the 1970's, she explored and combined the pop and jazz genres. She's amassed a body of work that is highly respected by both critics and fellow musicians.

Finally I found a clip from my high school days in Miami from 1966! The Birdwatchers were a garage rock-pop band in the Miami area. They dabbled with an Everly Brothers sound in their early career (1964), even releasing a version of "Wake Up Little Susie" on a local Florida label. In 1966, the band released a clutch of garage-pop 45s, including this one called, 'Girl I Got News for You'. I don't think they ever got much further than this, even though they did have an appearance on Hullabaloo.

Surprising as it may be, 'The Great One' made only one appearance on The Tonight Show, this was in 1985. A six-pack a day smoker for years, he battled colon cancer, liver cancer and thrombosed hemorrhoids even while he worked. He was hospitalized at one point in 1986-87, but checked himself out and died quietly at the age of 71 at his Inverrary, Florida home on June 24th 1987.

Sicilian-born Francesco (Frank) Lentini was a familiar figure in the early years of the 20th century for an obvious reason: He was born with three legs. One of the legs was malformed (probably from a twin that did not develop properly in his mother's womb). It served no useful purpose other than providing Lentini with a portable stool! Lentini's father was ashamed of him and exiled him from home. Lentini grew up withdrawn and depressed until he visited a home for the handicapped and saw children who were far worse off than he was. He emigrated to America in 1898 at the age of nine. Billed as the Three-Legged Wonder, Lentini appeared in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and Ringling Brothers' circus. Lentini eventually married and fathered four normal children. He died in Florida in 1966 at the age of 77.
