To introduce myself to this site...let me start with my original Introductory Video, produced for YouTube, from March of 2007. This pretty much describes me and my involvement in home video. But collecting videos is only one of my facets...I have been collecting pop songs on audiotape since the 1960s (I have a reel-to-reel collection that is in essence a history of Cleveland radio during the 1960s), I have a newspaper collection that I'm trying to sell, and have about 750 45's that I'm still trying to figure out what to do with! I also learned how to become somewhat computer-savvy....I have published two websites (one devoted to my precious Betamax video format, it's at betainfoguide.net, the other devoted to one of the most popular Top 40 AM stations ever to hit Cleveland, WIXY-1260 - that site is at www.wixy1260.com). I am originally from Cleveland but lived in Las Vegas for 4 1/2 wonderful years in the mid-90s, and hope to get back there someday....permanently. Most of my working life has been spent in retail, mainly the restaurant business, although now I'm working at New York Frozen Foods baking bread! I love to meet people with common interests, which is why I'm here; plus I have 7 active channels on YouTube! I married a wonderful Japanese lady in 1980 and we'll soon be celebrating 30 years of married bliss! Take care, and let me hear from you!

Teresa, here's the cover of Life Magazine from April 21, 1958--not quite the day you were born, but almost. JFK and family were the featured subject--more than two years before he was elected president.

Hello my YRT friends. Y’all know me as Mizzouhillbilly, but my friends call me Scott. As you can tell from my tag I’m from the great state of Missouri. I was raised in a small town not far from my family’s cattle farm. My father worked for the USGS (grandfather wanted his kids to go to college and not work the farm) and moved us to the west coast in 1982 (I was 16 at the time). I have been in California since. I married my high school sweetheart in ’85 and she has blessed me with 4 beautiful kids. I am very family oriented, so we are a very close knit family. So, my life has been spent doing as much as possible with my family. I was a girl scout (YES! A girl scout) for many years as my wife was the troop leader. At the same time I coached my two oldest from t-ball to softball until they entered high school. I am also a proud cheer dad running all over the country to many cheer competitions. The rest of my time is spent getting a few hours of sleep and working a government job. Oh yeah, I do get to spend some time with my lovely wife. Things are starting to slow down as my kids are getting older allowing more time for myself. My oldest is 21 and about to graduate from UC Berkeley and plans on continuing her education at Cambridge next year. My second is 19 and a sophomore at a local state college and an avid photographer. My third is 17 and is about to graduate high school. She is a competitive cheerleader (like those you see on ESPN not high school) and is headed to Mizzou next year. Then my son is 14 and about to enter high school. He is an avid chef and is planning on opening his own pastry shop after getting his business degree (his words not dads). Once they’re all out of the house I’m headed back to the Ozarks to live my life sitting on the porch in my rocker with a cold one in one hand and my wife in the other. That is my life in a nutshell. I want to thank all my YRT friends for all their posts and support. My kids love seeing all the stuff from my childhood that I always talk about.

Taped in June of 1980 (the same month I got married), here is an on-camera detailed demo of the Japanese Sony Betamax, the SL-J7. This machine was never released in the United States, although it's close in styling and features to the American SL-5800. For its day...this machine was way ahead of its time.

Pro wrestling may have hit its pinnacle in 1985 when grappling thespian Hulk Hogan was featured on the cover of the April 29 edition of Sports Illustrated. It generated letters to the editor for several weeks, equally pro and con. One rasslin' fan wrote, 'With low ticket prices, no offseason, no trades, no contract disputes...pro wrestling is true sports entertainment!' A contrary opinion was offered by another SI reader who wrote, 'For you to even think of pro wrestlers as athletes is ridiculous, let alone put one of those marshmallows on the cover. Come on!'

Coach's Corner is a hugely popular intermission feature on Hockey Night In Canada. It features the flamboyant and bombastic former coach Don Cherry and the CBC's Ron McLean--who tries his best to keep Cherry under control. This is Cherry at his politically incorrect best from 1992.

On April 1, 1985, Sports Illustrated perpetrated a classic journalistic hoax as an April Fools joke. George Plimpton authored a feature story titled 'The Curious Case of Sidd Finch.' It was about a mysterious rookie pitcher who was the talk of the New York Mets' spring training camp. The story said Finch was a French horn player and part mystic, who, through studying yoga, could throw a baseball 168 miles per hour. He pitched wearing a heavy work boot on his right foot while he wore nothing on his left foot. SI got more than 2,000 letters, many from baseball fans who fell for Plimpton's tale. The teaser for the story was the giveaway: 'He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent lifestyle, Sidd's deciding about yoga...' If you write the first letter from each of the words you get 'HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY.'

I was born and raised an "Army Brat" in Ft. Campbell, KY(1956) and lived the Army life until I was 10 years old. At which time my dad went to Vietnam and moved us back to my mom's and his hometown of Rockingham, NC which I still call "home". I had the typical home life and my parents were the best in the world as far as I'm concerned. I have moved myself several times since then to include a tour in the Air Force from 1974-1978.
Went to college at UNC-Greensboro from 1979-1981. Didn't graduate though. Got married and moved back to Rockingham. That one didn't work out! But good things come to those that wait and married the true love of my life, Mary, in 1995.
We have lived in Myrtle Beach, SC since then, but prior to that we lived in Atlanta, GA.
Life has sure had it's ups and downs, but my "best friend" Mary always seems to make them OK regardless of what happens. We don't have any children but we do have 2 dogs that have us trained very well!
I've had several professions over my life time to include working for Campbell Soup for awhile. But the past few years I have been heavily involved in marine electronics installations with my own business up until 2007 when doctors told me my right hip and my back just couldn't take that any more. What do doctors know huh? At least that was my thinking but boy did they prove me wrong! (So did my back and hip!)
Got a job with Kodak after that as Director of Photography and Training at the Hard Rock Theme Park in Myrtle Beach that went belly up after their first year and now on lay off. BUT WAIT! Someone actually bought the place and looks like I may be back at work. Keep those fingers crossed!!!
I stumbled on to YRT about a year ago. And for awhile my wife would literally have to make me come to bed! I couldn't get enough of this site! The past few months I went through surgery on my back and was laid up for awhile, was getting better, got a nasty sinus infection and that laid me up as well! (Talk about bad luck!) But all is better and I'm back at it again with new stuff to upload.
Steve has made on heck of a site! While I don't know him or others on here personally I can tell you out of all the sites on the internet this is most certainly my favorite. People like "Jedgwrn" who supplys tons of trivia, "Marty6697" with all those great videos (where does he find all that stuff????) and "Lava1964" who I believe has every single episode of "What's My Line"! (I love 'um Lava!!) There are others but I've bored everyone enough. :-)
One things for sure, Steve deserves massive "Kudos" for all his efforts!
A "YRT" fan forever...
