ah, don't u miss a good ol' family restaurant where u could get a booth OR sit at the counter and be entertained! The Mission is a classic California Coffee Shop in an area starved for Time Machines. Very affable Hispanic staff and good food. Everything you would want in a good old Coffee Shop. Vibrant, increasingly lovely teen fave Shelley Fabares withstood the test of time by transitioning successfully into adult parts unlike many of her 1960s "teen queen" peers who faded quickly into the memory books. She was born Michele Marie Fabares on January 19, 1944, in sunny Santa Monica, California. As the niece of singer/comedienne Nanette Fabray, she was indoctrinated early into the show biz life.
Teen-idol status came with her coming-of-age role as the ever-wholesome daughter Mary Stone on "The Donna Reed Show" (1958), a part she played for five seasons before embarking on a more grown-up film career. During the run of the classic sitcom, she and TV "brother" Paul Petersen grew so popular that they sprinted to adjoining pop singing celebrity, although both admitted that their vocal talents were limited. Shelley especially enjoyed a #1 Billboard hit with the breathy, sultry-edged "Johnny Angel." The character of Mary Stone was gently phased out of the show as her character "left for college."

If you didn't watch The Gong Show in the seventies you missed out on some fabulous acts--like this one! Miss Dolly struts her considerable stuff in this 1977 episode. For some puzzling reason she was gonged. In case you're wondering about the sign that says It's Harold Schindler Night and the allusion to him after Miss Dolly's act, he was a critic who gave The Gong Show a terrible review. Chuck Barris responded by dedicating a show to him.

"For God's sake, GET OUT!" was the ad campaign for the 1979 shocker, The Amityville Horror. The film was based on the allegedly true story of the luckless Lutz family, who move lock, stock, and barrel into a new home, only to find that it is possessed by the demonic spirits of its previous owners. Variations of the Seven Deadly Plagues emanate from virtually every household fixture, while other forms of otherworldly mischief are suffered by the Lutz children. Enter kindly Father Delaney (Rod Steiger), who does his utmost to exorcise the house. The Amityville Horror was frequently greeted with laughs from its first-run audiences, especially after it was discovered that the "actual" events depicted in the film (based on a book by Jay Anson) were complete fabrications.

DID WE REALLY LOOK LIKE THAT WHEN WE DANCED??
One of the longest lasting of the teen idols of the early 60's, Bobby Vee got his lucky break when he and and his band the Shadows filled in for the late Buddy Holly at a 1959 Mason City, Iowa, concert a few days after Holly was killed in a plane crash. His 1961 summer release Take Good Care of My Baby went to #1 on the Billboard U.S. He went on to record a string of international hits in the 1960s, including Devil or Angel, Rubber Ball (1961), More Than I Can Say (1961), Run To Him (1961), The Night Has a Thousand Eyes (1963), and Come Back When You Grow Up (1967). Bobby Vee currently performs at Dick Clark's American Bandstand Theater in Branson, Missouri. He performs in the "Original Stars of American Bandstand" show along with Fabian, Chris Montez, Brian Hyland, and the Chiffons. His sons Tommy and Jeff both perform in the show with him. When I look at him now I realize how very young he was at the time.

In 1972, Denver scored his first top ten album, with Rocky Mountain High, while its title track reached the Top Ten in 1973. In 1974, "Sunshine on My Shoulders" and "Annie's Song" both went to number one, and "Back Home Again" made it to number five. In 1975, he again had two number ones, "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" and "Calypso/I'm Sorry," and a top twenty hit, "Sweet Surrender." Key to Denver's success were his many appearances on television, which in the pre-MTV era of the 1970s, with his long blond hair, embroidered 'western' shirts, affable manner & granny glasses, made him one of the first truly "tele-genic" pop stars. In subsequent years, Denver had a lower-profile career. He had a few more U.S. Top 30 hits as the 1970s ended, but nothing to match the success he enjoyed earlier. As his career slowed down, Denver focused more on humanitarian and sustainability work. He worked extensively on conservation projects and helped to create the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. On October 12, 1997, Denver was killed when the Long-EZ aircraft he was piloting crashed just off the coast of California at Pacific Grove, shortly after taking off from the Monterey Peninsula Airport.

When The Beatles' 1966 album Yesterday And Today was first released, it featured this grisly cover photo with the Fab Four clad in butchers' smocks posed among dismembered dolls and slabs of meat. The public outcry was swift. Some radio stations refused to play any of the album's songs. The albums were recalled after only one day on the shelves and had a different photo pasted on the cover. Recently an unpasted copy of this album sold for more than $10,000.
